U of L 7 on 7 Tourney

Featured Replies

I am happy to hear that Trinity is the only school that takes SAT's and runs in the state track meet. Once again, why wasn't Trinity there? Henry Clay was there with 1 less week than THS. Are you scared of Manual?

Because Trinity is doing their 7 on 7 this year at Trinity on Thursday nights as well as going to Highlands on one Friday night. I guess that maybe Coach Beatty (who has been pretty successful BTW) thinks that he can get his team ready for the real thing better thei way.

As far as being scared on Manual, check and see who opted out of a regular season game this year.

I would suggest that Trinity uses the off season to prepare for the next year in the manner they deem best. So far, it seems to be working. I'm pretty sure that schoolyard taunts on BGP won't cause Coach Beatty to change his tactics.

The reason I am bringing it up is it is a change in tactics from years past and they have enjoyed success with playing any and all in preseason and the season. Why change something that has worked?

Nothing has changed. Last years 7 on 7 at U of L was much later then the 6/1. I'm sure Beatty would entertain a call from your coach on a 7 on 7 workout if aceeptable dates can be worked out. And truth be said, 7 on 7 is not real football, yes it works on routes/timing for the receivers/QB, but the QB has no real pressure besides a stopwatch.

^ I think JimmyRef has messed up all the "quoted boxes" above.....

Sometimes things need to be changed. Sometimes the tried and true can be improved upon. I have no idea why Trinity did not participate. Did they say they were and then pulled out? I doubt it. Maybe Coach Beatty felt with a new QB starting, there was a better alternative. It's a long season. How your 7-on-7 "team" does on June 1 is not really an indicator of how your full team will do in late November and early December. I think Coach B knows what he is doing. And, no, I do not believe Trinity is afraid of Manual--respect, yes, fear, no.

Great job by Manual. Congratulations!

As far as Trinity not being there, I do not question any decision that Coach Beatty makes at this point. It is obvious he has made a lot of good decisions and very much knows what he is doing. It sounds like their squad would have been depleted as well.

You think he might want a few more repetitions with his new quarterback before he throws him in the fire?

I don't know how you feel about your "running team" QB this year, Pete, but I do believe that Zoeller will be a much improved passer in St. X.'s "running team" offense in 2007.

Congratulations on your win. It's great that two teams from the toughest district in Kentucky made the finals. :thumb:

Don't forget Brutcher.

Don't forget Brutcher.

Good point...I'm sure he will be greatly improved also. :thumb:

Well...last year they felt they didn't get what they wanted out of the 7 on 7 with the majority of the starters being out...they obviously felt that way this year as well.

Don't forget Brutcher.

Just curious, isn't Brohm going out for QB at St. X? This could be bad news for Brutcher next year. Did Brohm participate in the 7 on 7 competition?

I don't know what 7 on 7 tournament some saw BUT the one I was at had Manual running the same type of passing offense they will run during the season. The play action (ball fakes) is absolutely a big part of the whole offense and that is why Manual has always (in passing leagues) run the same offense and defense they will use during the real season. We play cover 3 and a man coverage and that is what we work on in passing leagues. We run wing-T offense and that is why the ball fakes and rollout is utilized. All that being said, Manual had only TWO four second calls on the ENTIRE DAY! I will let everyone guess what game those two calls came in. Both times the calls were made, there was no play action and one was on a crucial PAT try after maybe 3 seconds. The officials were consistent all day with the "lenient" enforcement of the 4 second calls.

As far as Trinity making it to this 7 on 7, what does it matter where they decide to play their 7 on 7 tourneys? They SHOULD do what their head coach deems to be the best for that program. I am certain they will "hold their own" this season regardless of whether they go to U of L's 7 on 7 or not.

I do believe that many teams were missing players of varying degrees of importance. Just like the regular season, you adapt and overcome. Worry about what you will need to do to win with who you have.

I will agreee that Boyd (Henry Clay) was a very impressive athlete. One side note is that he caught a couple balls but seemed to drop crucial passes when he got contact. That is something a bigger receiver will have to improve on as I am sure that many will try to play him physically to take his focus off the football.

Last but not least, Coach Kragthorpe was around the Trager center during the entire tournament portion at the end. He was seen and not heard but very willing to talk to several coaches in a casual manner. I don't think he will be needing a publicity advisor hired for him.

Let's get serious! Neither Brian Brohm at Trinity or Deuce Finch at St. X. played on the varsity as freshmen. Young Brohm will do well at X, but he will have to overcome staunch competition from two other outstanding QB candidates on the Tigers 2007 Freshman team before he has to worry about any varsity duty.

Hey big Ox, you miss the point. When Brutcher is a SR is when he'll have to worry about Brohm. There was another Brohm who started as a Sophmore at another local school. So I take it that Brohm did not compete in the 7 on 7?

I think that Brian Buehner will compete also. He was at the 7 on 7 for the JV team that went undefeated. Brohm and Buehner on the same team-who da thunk it?

FYI, Trinity will conduct some 7-on-7 workouts against other schools on Thursdays at Marshall Stadium. They are scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 7,14 and 21. Opponents include CAL, South Oldham, KCD and Daviess County.
