I couldn't attend today, had family obligations this morning and a Louisville Fire game at night. During the Fire game a proud Coach Nichols called me with the news. Manual beat St. X in the championship, imagine that 2 predominately running schools, maybe times are changing.

I didn't get many details from Nichols but he said we beat Lex Cath earlier today and that QB Joey Harness played well and the top WR was soph Aaron Cosby (last year started 10 varsity games as FS, didn't play offense).

I don't know how you feel about your "running team" QB this year, Pete, but I do believe that Zoeller will be a much improved passer in St. X.'s "running team" offense in 2007.

Congratulations on your win. It's great that two teams from the toughest district in Kentucky made the finals. :thumb:

Oh man, that's AWESOME!!!

...I guess this will put Manual back on the radar for some people

Congrats to the Rams> Big wins over Lex Catholic, Franklin County, Henry Clay, and the Tigers. I thought Harness threw the ball very well all day and the receivers caught the balls. I think Crosby was the one who caught the

last TD between the safety and the corner. He went up and got the ball.

Other Observations from the Tourney. Rivals.com was there and were impressed with Boyd from Henry Clay, Finch from X, and Heyman from Male. Look for write ups about each one of those players.

X had SAT's. injuries, and track conflicts which eliminated three of their top WR's for Saturday and the 7th Region Baseball tournament reduced Starting QB's Zoeller reps to only Friday and limited today. Brutscher played alot including the final so the the junior got alot of reps during the week and today. Still Ben Brown displayed a weapon not seen much and Kuiper and Cecil made big catches all day.

I bet alot of you don't know that the referees are not paid for the tourney. Many of the seniors officials pair up with some of the younger officials and they use this tournament to hone their skills for the upcoming season. Many of the guys noted that Coach Kragthorpe is much better atmosphere than Coach Petrino who used this to practice his yelling at the officials.:D Imagine donating 8 hours of your time in 95 degree heat index and then getting yelled at by the head Coach of U of L!! Welcome Coach K.

Where was Trinity? Why the change in policy this year? I would think that it is a great opportunity for all teams to work some back ups and get some reps. Maybe with Stein playing baseball until Thursday, they passed on this tourney. I know that Ballard, Male, Manual, X, and Fern Creek were there and all of those high schools have players on U of L's team. Besides Brian Brohm, who was the last Trinity player to play significantly for U of L? Greg Brohm? That's another thread.

Once again, congrats to Coach Nichols and the Rams.

That can't be true, I heard Manual was a nobody to the Lexington schools...:walk:

Great job Rams. Carry it into the season.

Manual had kids that caught the ball well I question whether or not some of their successful plays saturday would work on a friday night game. For example making two play fakes, rolling right two yards deep and pulling up and throwing 50 yds down field to the left will probably not happen when a line is present.

When Austin Tiller was the QB a few years back he used to make a living off the roll out pass. In running the wishbone this type of passing was standered operating procedure.

Trinity players were all taking their SAT's. Remember, Trinity normally gets 2-3 weeks more practice than most local teams from the prior year.

Also JimmyRef....to your point of Coach Petrino, do you really think these young, inexperience referees will not get yelled at during regular season? Give me a break. Don't be hating a past U of L coach who did so much for the University of Louisville....

I was thinking just the opposite that they are taking way too much time faking the run during a passing tournament. I think with their line this year and a majority of running plays that those fakes will allow more time IMHO.

They looked very good.

Didn's say that they didn't look good. and the play fakes were fine, but throwing accross your body to the opposite side of the field on a regular basis is not going to work. If it does than good for Manual. The bottom line is they were better than most that day.

Manual is passing more but is still a Wing-T running team, last year we passed more than any other team under Nichols (all those teams also had same OC - Gary Weiter). Both Nichols and Weiter agree that we still run our regular offense even in passing league, if a pass play is out of the wing sets we still run the fakes and things even if it's eating into those 4 seconds.

It's the misdirection of the wing-t and defenses having to respect our halfbacks (all of whom return from last year) that give the QB time on those rollouts.

Tiller did execute that quite well, Keenan did too, but Keenan had the green light to keep it and often did with sucess.

What are you talking about?

Surprised to learn of such an early 7 on 7. Our school just got out on Friday, about 5+ weeks since the last day of Spring ball. I am surprised in the thought process that QBs and WRs would be game ready without practice. Secondly, I hought there was a limit to 7 on 7s? If so, why do schools use their allotment so early in the Summer practice session? If I am all wet on this please let me know, I have thick skin!

I don't think there is a limit on number of 7/7's a team can play during June. But, it would seem that teams competing so early didn't have much time to get ready unless they started practicing before the end of the school year?

Congrats to Manual.
