Predicting Billy Gillispie's Career at Kentucky...

Featured Replies

This is all based on assumption, so...

Assume that Billy Gillispie is the coach at Kentucky for twenty years, as likely or unlikely that is. Put down his overall record, national championships, final fours, conference tournament and regular season crowns. Also, assume there will be 700 games (35 a year on average.)

My prediction:

588-112

3 National Championships

7 Final Fours

11 Regular Season Conference Championships

9 Conference Tournament Championships

29-6 would be approx. average record.

My prediction...

590-110

2 National Championships

5 Final Fours

14 Regular Season Championships

10 SEC tourney championships

Sounds pretty solid. But remember his next Elite 8 will be his first... :jump:

530-170

2 NCs

4 FFs

7 SEC REG SEASON TITLES

7 SEC TOURNEY TITLES

I would take a NC a decade in a heartbeat.

There I fixed it for you. :D

There have only been twelve coaches to win multiple national titles.

Only 4 are active.

Donovan (Florida

Calhoun (UConn)

Smith (UNC)

Leader K (Duke)

Crum (Louisville)

Knight (Indiana)

Wooden (UCLA)

Jucker (Cincy)

Woolpert (San Francisco)

McCracken (Indiana)

Rupp (Kentucky)

Iba (OK St)

That's some VERY elite company there.

But all elite programs. UK gives him the platform, he just has to deliver. I think he will.

And of ALL those elite programs, only one has had two coaches do it.

There's not a lot of historical precedent here.

A little loaded don't you think.

There is little to no way that Gillespie would last 20 years at UK without having an outstanding record. If you assume he will last twenty years you alos have to assume he will do very well.

My prediction...

259 Wins

68 Losses

4 Final Fours

2 Runner Ups

1 Nat'l Title

0 DUIs (sorry, I had to do it)

Theres noway he averages almost 30wins a year.

Slow start...into a return to greatness for UK.

I think its kind of silly to make any kind of predictions on his overall record without him even coaching a game. However, UK has to be considered a little bit different animal than most elite programs in that they have had 4 different coaches win titles. They've also won titles in 4 different decades, most of the above listed programs either had their success in one block of time or with one coach. UK has been among the elite since the 40's. I have no idea how Gillispie will do or how long he'll stay but if he does indeed stay 20 years I'd say he will have to have won multiple titles--no way the fan base would accept less!

I agree with these figures.:thumb:
