May 14, 200719 yr I like Joe Girardi as the possible replacement and he would be great with the younger players like he was in Florida. I don't think Bobby Valentine will ever be back in the states because most owners dislike him, plus, he's a celebrity in Japan. Of course, Castellini is a throwback kinda guy, so could you see a former Reds player managing the team? Tony Perez (again), Ron Oester, Johnny Bench (those paint commercials pretty much set him up financially for life though)?
May 14, 200719 yr Krivsky is responsible for assembling the worst bullpen in the majors, not Narron. Stanton and Cormial were 40 years old when he signed them. What did he expect? Red's talent should still be good enough to be a .500 club, but Narron is a poor manager. Switches lineup WAY too much. Guy's batting 7th one day, 2nd the next, cleanup the next, and in minors (Encarnacion?!) the next. Get yourself a lineup and play it! He worries too much about playing everyone and keeping everyone happy because he has no job security. The Reds have tried to trade Dunn (I have info from an inside source) - no one wants him at his salary. Let's face it - he's another Dave Kingman and Kingman never led anyone to the Series. Milton is a waste. You couldn't give him away with his salary. And while Griffey is on fire as of late, you are only days from a hangnail, sick tummy, or torn something-or-other that will limit his season to his usual 90 games. His salary would buy some nice pitching also. Championships start with pitching. Long process required to fix this team.

May 14, 200719 yr Bullpen usage This is a good point from reader David Short, what do you guys think? Starter goes 7 1/3 inning. Reliever A comes in and gives up a walk to the only batter he faces. Reliever B comes in. Gets an out and gives up a three run bomb. Gets the next batter. Reliever C finishes the game without a pinch hitter for B. 7 1/3 inning from the starter and 3 relievers to finish the last five outs. By my count 2 other guys warmed up. It may have been more. Reliever A has been used in 4 of the last 5 days. Reliever B has been used the last 4 days in a row. Not ONE of those switches was caused by a reliever getting tired or being ineffective or by a pinch hitter coming in. (That's not saying the relievers were effective, but that the switches were not caused by that.) Link to Full Story
May 14, 200719 yr I read that last week too Jay and I believe it, plus the incessant lineup changes show how ineffective Narron is as a manager. Granted, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken poop, and we all know the bullpen is closer to the later, but why does he feel the need to make so many changes?
