In the end it only hurts UK by providing less national exposure. The fact that you guys are just fine with that is what blows my mind. It's not about getting a few games under their belt, it's about getting it off national tv because the powers that be don't want to get shelled. To compete in the SEC you have to get national exposure. This is just further proof that UK has no real interest in trying to get to the top of the SEC...

 

Heres the thing. Negative national exposure does not help UK any. When the schedule was changed the team did not appear to be as good as we are now. UL is a better football program right now so getting beat by UL does not help UK any. I also think someone will pick the game up that week. JMO, both teams are exciting to watch and the game should be high scoring.

Kind of tough when that trademark UK fan arrogance is turned back around at you, eh? With the way most UK fans dismissively talk about UofL (e.g. "little brother"), I'd rather they didn't root for the Cards.

That's a fearsome national TV schedule the Cards are playing...aside from WVU and maybe Rutgers, not a whole lot of substance for them. I can see why the Cards would be upset over losing a national spotlight game against an SEC opponent, but I don't know why anyone thinks the Cats should set them up with a great recruiting tool. As someone else alluded to the building of Kansas State's program, that is the exact kind of plan the Brooks and company seem to be following. Since it worked for those Wildcats, I'm hopeful it will work here. Honestly though, getting shelled on national TV is not the best way to build a program up so in my mind it's a good move for UK. If and when UK gets to be a consistent top 20 team, then...and ONLY then...should they look at upping the difficulty of the non-conference portion of their schedule and trying to get more national games. With the quality they see week in and week out in the SEC, they cannot afford to lose multiple non-conference games if they hope to get to a bowl.

I called UL little brother when it comes to basketball. I don't think its a bias remark for UK when I say that UL has a better football program. :lol:

Plus don't forget that the SEC's natural recruiting base is the area of the nation that everybody is trying to recruit. Losing a national TV game doesn't hurt UK's recruiting in the southeast as much as it does someone whose regional coverage is not that extensive there.

So are you saying that if UK is 30 points worse than UL (which they basically were when the decision was made) they should still want to play it on tv and get beat badly? I believe looking at it now we are a much better team than we were when this all came about. And I still think some tv will pick it up when its all said and done.

If the role was reversed and it was Basketball, and U of L got the game moved to taped delay, would the Kentucky Basketball fans be saying the exact same thing GT is saying?

I've no idea because I don't follow either program that closely. My point was that UK will still have plenty of regional coverage, good or bad, in the southeast. This will come through SEC games of the week and the various news outlets covering the SEC throughout the area.

 

I would expect that UL does not have nearly as much regional coverage in the southeast as most of their opponents and their conference is based in the northeast. While they do have South Florida, who do you think gets more coverage, the Bulls or the Gators?

 

In any event, I don't see how taking a whupping on national TV helps UK in any way shape or form. If that's weak or cowardly, so be it. If any of us were going to get smacked around and our only choice was having broadcast live on national TV or being shown regionally on tape delay, I'm guessing we'd all take tape delay.

Here's the flaw in that line of thinking. How was the game last time it was at UK? Close? They don't get to move the game that's at UL, and that's when it get ugly, right? In week 1 with a ton returning and playing at home on national TV against the Cards in the first game under the new coach, UK had a very good chance of pulling the shocking upset and being huge national news. Now with little to no national attention on the game it means less to the entire state. That's not good IMO. They made a bold decision and now it looks like a very bad one. That's all I'm saying...
