But moving it has made sure it will not get the same national exposure it was getting as a stand alone game with little to no other sporting events on any channel, right? It was in an amazing slot on a holiday weekend...

At least for the 2008 season it will be back where it belongs.

If any of you honestly believe this game won't be on live TV I have some swampland in Florida I would like to sell you. Louisville will be a Top 10 team at that point playing an in-state SEC rival and both will be likely be undefeated by that point. It is even possible UK could be ranked 25 or 24 depending on how the chips fall elsewhere in the country. It's safe to say the game will be picked up by one of the 43 ESPN networks, FoxSports, CBS, CSTV, or any of the other 436 ways college football can be shown on a given weekend.

 

I see a lot of accusations made on here about UK but have yet to see a link where UK asked the game to be taken off live TV. Please provide a link or someone contact the Sports Information Office to clarify if the University of Kentucky asked the game to be taken off the slate.

 

If someone can confirm, with evidence this was the case than it was a stupid move that I cannot imagine even someone as old as Rich Brooks would make. It doesn't matter who you are playing you want your logo and your program on National TV. Even if you lose by 3 or 4 touchdowns the opening of that game and the atmosphere is going to stick in the minds of those watching the game. And, if by some chance, you win then thats just icing on the cake.

You are saying a UK win over UL is better on tape delay over an elite NATIONAL time slot.

Other than the fact that UK doesn't get ran on National TV, somebody please explain to me how moving the game back is beneficial to UK?

 

 

A couple more weeks to get ready and into game shape, before playing one of your biggest rivals, isn't helpful? UK felt they needed the time, who are you to question that?

The thought process at play behind moving this game back is why UK will always be a dead fish when it comes to football. Clearly the UK fans and the athletic department are OK with being a perrenial bottom-feeder.

 

 

It looks to me like the program is on the rise. Last season ended with a bowl win...didn't you know that? UK is trying to get more time to prepare for a top 10 rival team and that is not a smart move?

 

I find it very funny that the people that disagree with the move are the same people who tend to stick together in the UL/UK arguments. Coincidence? :sleep:

A few things:

 

1) gt, you can claim all you want that you could care less about this issue but it's easy to see that your dog in this fight is ripping UK whenever possible. One can just do a quick search through old forums and see that. You're a well respected poster on here by myself, and I'd hope and assume everyone else, but don't say that you could "care less" when it's plain to see that you're not one to pass up on a good ol' UK bashing.

 

2) I find it funny that this is causing such an uproar (by UofL/anti-UK fans of course but an uproar, nonetheless). As someone else stated, who else plays their biggest rival on the first week? It's not an age-old tradition being ruined so I don't see what the issue is.

 

3) For those of you saying that UK is passing up the chance to take down UofL on the "big stage", be more realistic. Barnhart, Brooks, and all of the UK fan base know that the chance of taking down the Cards at any point in the season, much less the first game of the season, is very slim. Sure, it would be amazing to see the Cats pounce on the Cards in the first game of the year but I'll take a win over the Cards at any point in the season.

 

4) To improve the chances of getting that win, UK is getting two games under its belt first and it's a good idea to do so.

How funny to see you speak for me. I really don't care either way. But as someone that covers sports for a living, this is part of my job. Giving up a national game is a bad idea. Giving up a national game and not even getting live coverage is AWFUL.

Why the stupid name calling? Is UK not worthy of being mentioned in top 25 talks? Even after the season they had last year topped of with an impressive bowl win over Clemson? I think seeing as how they're returning nearly everyone, they deserve to be mentioned in top 25 talks. Why the animosity towards UK and their recent success?

The UL game is a critical, and I mean critical, game each year for UK. If the UK coaches think that it increases their chances of winning by playing them later in the year, that's good enough reason for me. If nothing else, it shows the respect that UK has for UL's program. If that respect is a sign of weakness to some, so be it. If being on tape delay is a big problem for some, I'm happy for you as you obviously don't have any real problems in your life to be worried about. I'd like to watch it live also, but I'm not going to get my boxers in a bunch over it. And the point that most schools do not play their strongest rivals is a strong one, and would indicate that UK's decision is backed by conventional wisdom.

Where is the bias? The game was at a perfect time and place to give both schools and the entire state the national stage. The last two times it was in Lexington it was a close game, and any time you can play a rivalry game at home in front of a packed house on national TV it's a GREAT thing. Add in the exclusive time slot and you'd have to be a fool to give it up. If UL did the same thing next year I would have the same venom for them. So nope. No bias. Just calling a bad move a bad move...
