They also had gripes about having to get the EXACT same ring as the previous year's ring. They were even told that they weren't ALLOWED to upgrade the rings on their own dime...and if they did, they couldn't wear them to school. Does anyone else think this is over the top (bottom?)? If you have pictures of previous rings...feel free to please post them. (especially NCC / HHS rings).

Being involved with the football boosters and the AD I can see both sides of this dilemma.

 

My thought is why would they have to have the exact same ring as last year. I know for a fact that you can get many different ring designs for the same price. I think they should change them every year so if there were multiple wins in a row they would have special meaning for each year.

 

 

As for the tuition assisted players I am sure that some good citizen out there would or could make an anonymous donation to help said players afford the more expensive rings without anyone being the wiser.

 

I know at Russell we got a price on the particular design of rings we wanted and it was up to the booster club to raise the funds. There was never any question of underprivileged players not getting rings. Everyone got the same ring and all were in agreement. They win as a team and their rings reflected that. All the rings were the exact same design just different wording.

So they could upgrade but they couldn't wear the upgraded rings to school?

The theory is that the championship was won by a team, and as such, all the rings should be the same. Since some players (families) could not afford an expensive ring the decision was made to keep the rings affordable for all.

I have no problem with the team having the same ring for all.

How spoiled are those kids that they have the gall to complain about their state championship ring??? Very sad statement on those individuals...

Im not so sure. If i were a senior i would be more upset about not having an opportunity to make a new design and customize it for your team. They worked hard to deserve those rings, so why shouldnt they be able to have something they are proud of. I would lament 20 years down the road when i saw the ring, instead of remembering the glory, etc.

The team getting the same ring is the way it should be, IMO. However, if it truly was the same design as the previous year it would lose some luster. It doesn't change the accomplishment though...

How many kids would give anything to have the opportunity to play for a state championship and these kids are complaining because they can't add extras to their rings. I can kind of understand the design thing, but the other gripes are just selfish and materialistic.
