The 84 class AA champs recieved these really styling bright gold nylon jackets with the elastic cuffs and collars. Not very attractive and definately, not something that you can show off to your friends.

...I need to find a jeweler who could/would inexpensively mount that trinket on an inexpensive ring base. Maybe when we win the inaugural AAAAA championship (like '75 won the inaugural AAA championship) we can get father-son rings????:laugh:

The theory is that the championship was won by a team, and as such, all the rings should be the same. Since some players (families) could not afford an expensive ring the decision was made to keep the rings affordable for all.

 

I don't think that that is fair unless the players themselves voted for it.

Voted for by the captains. That wasn't the school's choice, that was the team leaders' choice.

I see your point but I'm not sure thats something that should be left up to the players. Basically, as I understand it, the Boosters committed a certain amount for rings (same for All-A Girls Soccer champ rings) and then the players would be responsible for any difference. Just using numbers out of the air lets say they committed 50 and rings that were picked cost 80. That a big difference from 50 versus 380 that players may have wanted.

Rings are a semi-recent trend for most schools and I would hazard a guess that not all sports receive or maybe even expect equal treatment. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wonder if all the Boys and Girls cross-country state championship teams got rings.

The decision was made that for every state championship at NCC that the teams would receive a "stadium" design ring with a stone in the middle (sunk in) and writing around that. Each specific team could change the sides to their liking, but not the top style. The rings the seniors on the team wanted cost 10-20 dollars more than the ones they received last year. The seniors wanted to bag groceries, fundraiser, out-of-pocket, or anything else they could do to raise the extra money needed. However the administation said they were unable to do this because there is a temporary ban for raising money.

 

The seniors wanted to search for prices and different styles available at different jewelers, but the administration said that they own the copyright to "Newport Central Catholic", "Thoroughbreds", "breds logo", "final score", "2006 Class A Champions", etc. and that they would take any rings having those things placed on them.

 

Also the base "stadium" design was the cheapest design available. They didn't want a very expensive ring, they just wanted one that was a different style then the previous years (even if it meant getting cheaper rings). The seniors changed the stone from a blue cut stone to a smooth gold stone. They choose a precut design for the sides because a new cut would cost more. They chose a different style helmet on one side and the other side says "Back to Back 2005 2006" instead of the breds logo.

The bold font relates to the Capitol Campaign currently being administered at Newport Central Catholic.

I know very well an inside sorce and he has never said a negative thing about the rings. Maybe he just might thankful to have one.
