Right and unfortunately, as a Christian my ilk tend to turn a blind eye to this. They also think oveturning Roe v Wade is somehow going to solve the abortion issue and it isn't. What it will do, unfortunately, is create an unsafe black market for abortion where now not only will unborn children die but the mothers as well from infections and who knows what else. So now we don't have one life list, we have two.

 

The answer is attacking poverty, hopelessness, and improving education among the age group most at risk for having an abortion. What government needs to do is take a page from the Christian playbook and start abortion alternative centers that have proven to be successful by helping the mothers get educated or funded for their baby or by helping them find a family that can raise the baby.

 

There is no easy answer to this issue and I understand how it can divide this country. But I just can't sleep at night with the economic values of the Conservative party. I can't be for a party who uses Jesus and religion as a pawn for political gain. And I am telling you the Republicans use this issue to their advantage all the while they are doing nothing to help the lower class where abortions #'s are the highest. We need to revamp the way we help people in this country and not turn a blind eye to poverty. We need college students to walk out of college in th black and not 10's of thousands of dollars in the red.

 

Things are very. very wrong in this country and I think it's sad. I don't know if the Democrats are the answer or not, but I know Conservative economics is not the answer. And I think the last 6 years have more than proved that.

Presidential-Biden, Clinton, Dodd, and Edwards seemed the most composed and relaxed. Richardson seemed rushed, Obama seemed rattled, Biden gave the best answer(one word when asked), Kucinich seemed to gloat the entire debate about being against the Iraq war, & Gravel reminded me of Stockwell.

 

Now having said that-I checked the vote on the debate on the MSNBC website and see that Obama is getting the most votes on three different questions: Who stood out from the pack? Who showed the most leadership qualities? Who was the most convincing candidate? Also of note-on all three questions Clinton was second and Edwards was third.

Before tonight, I felt the Republicans were in serious trouble given GW's unpopularity. After watching this debate, I don't think that may be the case. I haven't seen this many losers on the same stage since................................well I guess since the last Democratic debate in 04.

I will say that this class seems to have a few that are better than the 04 Democratic selection. Unfortunately, for me, they are still staying with the Democratic platform of pro-choice.:irked:

 

If Obama was pro-life, I think I would support him. I like the idea of the diversity and message to the country of electing a new, fresh face that represents the diversity of this country.

The ban on partial birth abortion does make an exception for the case when the mother's life is in danger. However, it is extremely and I do mean extremely unlikely that there is any improvement in the mother's chances by performing a partial birth abortion. (About the same as winning the lottery.....twice!) If the mother's life is in danger, it is far quicker and safer to perform a c-section. Also, by the time the baby is literally half-born it would be easier and quicker to allow the birth and then treat the mother if she were in danger than it would be to take the time kill the baby.

 

The only real purpose for partial birth abortion is to end the life of the baby. Also, the exception for the life of the mother has always been in effect even prior to Roe vs. Wade.

I didn't see the debate but I did see a discussion afterwards by Chris Mathews, Andrea Mitchell and others and they seemed unanimous in saying Hilliary performed very well and Obama did poorly.

Thanks for clearing that up shooter. I knew there had to be exceptions -- despite what some pro-choice advocates might have us believe.

The big question for this debate isn't who won, but did anybody lose? Did anyone hurt themselves in this debate?
