Dodd has done well as has Edwards. Obama seems rattled at times. The guy from Alaska is reminding me of Stockdale. Not good. I think he may have scotch in his podium.

I'm very disappointed that none of them were against partial birth abortion.

 

 

 

Clinton(the male one) said that he didn't view a ban of partial birth abortion as a pro-life stance. He said he was against a ban of the procedure so that a woman,rather than having to birth an extremely hydrocephalic child and likely not be able to have children again, would be able to have children in the future. In other words, he views the partial birth abortion procedure as a pro-life stance. He had some support among pro-life women who had undergone the procedure.

I like both Edwards and Dodd pretty well. Hopefully, they will be able to make some gains on the frontrunners.

I guess the question is thusly: If it came down to it and your wife was going to die what choice would you make? If they do outlaw it then the choice is made for you. That is the issue. Personally I would choose my wife and I would to think I would have the chance to save her life rather than have the government dictate to me who should live or die.

 

 

Yes, I don't think any of us view abortion as something that is a wonderful thing. However, as you stated, the crux of the issue is should a woman and her family have a say in the decision or should it be left up to the government. I'm siding with the mother and family.

You mean "hydrocephalic". But I think what they may have been referring to was anencephalic -- which means the child has only a brain stem.

I know someone who had go through this many years ago. It was a horrible time for this couple and a very tough choice. But they did it (in Canada) and she is alive and now has three wonderful children. If she had not had it performed she would have died and subsequently the unborn child would have died during childbirth. Now 4 lives are here instead of none. They made the choice they felt like God led them to make. Where is the immorality in saving lives? Partial birth abortion is grizzly, but is only done in instances where the lives of the Mother are at stake.

 

It is not an easy issue. It is not black and white. I think we cannot rush to judge issues like this.

Could be; but things like that can be diagnosed far before it would be an issue.

 

Besides, some of those babies with hydrocephalus end up doing quite well. Some even grow up to be moderators.

I agree and would hope a decision could be made as early as possible. What if it is deemed that the mother's life is in real danger? Should she and family have an option of terminating the pregnancy?

Right and unfortunately, as a Christian my ilk tend to turn a blind eye to this. They also think oveturning Roe v Wade is somehow going to solve the abortion issue and it isn't. What it will do, unfortunately, is create an unsafe black market for abortion where now not only will unborn children die but the mothers as well from infections and who knows what else. So now we don't have one life list, we have two.

 

The answer is attacking poverty, hopelessness, and improving education among the age group most at risk for having an abortion. What government needs to do is take a page from the Christian playbook and start abortion alternative centers that have proven to be successful by helping the mothers get educated or funded for their baby or by helping them find a family that can raise the baby.

 

There is no easy answer to this issue and I understand how it can divide this country. But I just can't sleep at night with the economic values of the Conservative party. I can't be for a party who uses Jesus and religion as a pawn for political gain. And I am telling you the Republicans use this issue to their advantage all the while they are doing nothing to help the lower class where abortions #'s are the highest. We need to revamp the way we help people in this country and not turn a blind eye to poverty. We need college students to walk out of college in th black and not 10's of thousands of dollars in the red.
