"Quality" of fields in NKY

Featured Replies

I have failed it to see it yet, but I hear Walton's new field is top of the line.

I believe the plans at Beechwood are to move home plate by the school. So a right field home run would go towards the highway...Pretty sure.

I'd agree with that sentiment. In comparison to fields in the Lexington, Louisville, or Ohio area......NKY fields are by far the worst. I personally don't care for the field at Meiken. Aside from St. Henry, here are some of the fields that are "decent" IMO........Scott, NCC, and well.......that's about it.

In the "not decent but not bad category"

Ryle

Boone Co.

CovCath

Brossart

Holmes/Holy Cross

Simon Kenton

Villa

Bellevue(improving at least)

Dixie

Beechwood

Just plain bad

Lloyd

Dayton

Ludlow

Conner

I'm sure I forgot a few, but those are just off the top of my head.

You haven't been to Lloyd this year, then.

Walton's new facility is absolutely outstanding. They did a wonderful job there and the field plays very nicely. Lloyd has also upgraded. Coach Moore and company put in a grass infield and are working hard on their facility.

That seems like it would make for a short right field, if they indeed wanted to add more room around the field for seating. However, I guess they could fill in the slope down towards the highway and build a retaining wall to hold it all in.

The Florence Freedom facility is pretty sweet for high school games. Hope they can squeeze even more games in there in the future.

I agree it is an awesome facility to watch a game, but what about playing on the field? Right field looks to me to be very hilly. I was amazed at how uneven the outfield is. Anyone played out there have an opinion?

Sounds like I will have to check it out....

All 3 Boone Co fields are decent but not above average.

IMO St henry has the best field with Meinken being second behind it. Those are the only two fields who have mounds that resemble a major league mound and not just a hill and the infield/outfield are pretty decent size. Scott has a pretty nice field as well, especially with the addition of the lights.

Ludlow and Dayton are two of the worst fields to play at. No grass and the fences are uneven.

What do you mean by uneven fences at Ludlow? The height is the same all the way around.

Point blank, no HS field in NKy is as nice as the Ballard, and or PRP ball fields. Both of these baseball fields are outstanding, not only for the players, but also for the fans. Congrats to both schools.....

Henry Clay also has a very nice baseball field.

It is amazing how poor Conner's field is. Heck, if you're over 6'0'' you should be required to wear a helmet if you're anywhere near the dugout.

St. Henry's field is the best of the high schools in NKY & I'd imagine Dixie's will be very nice as well. Personally, I've always liked Scott's. The fence & seating left a little to be desired, but I always enjoyed baseball there.

How is Covington Catholic's looking? I know they had some big plans for it, but haven't heard much since & haven't been around much this baseball season.
