Not only is money an issue at most schools, its the lack of land. Many schools use their baseball fields as practice fields for football and/or soccer. Plus, many schools don't have fields onsite, and use a public/city field.

i disagree with the take on NCC's field being even a decent one. there is a giant ridge that goes from first to second and the outfield is as choppy and non-level as i've seen.

 

This is due to Soccer still practicing on the outfield in the fall. The Soccer field at Morscher should be finished by this fall and they will be off the baseball field and the coaches will be able to begin work on the outfield. The infield was worked on last year from pitchers mound to third base dug out. that side of the field is great, the ridge goes from 1st to 2nd is almost completely gone. I think NCC's field has the potential to be up there with St Henry, not right now, but there is potential. They just need to keep doing it a little at a time.

 

It is definitely 100 times better than Homerun heaven up on the hill.

I say it is one of the top fields in the area.

Maybe the new Boone County high school going in on Longbranch Rd will be a showcase. Not holding my breath.

Gallatins field is nice but it still needs work. But Henry County has the nicest field in that area.

I think Dixie's field is looking really good! Coach Maxwell puts alot of time into that field and it show's. Lets not confuse the surroundings with the shape of the field.

The Surroundings are a part of the field, but i agree, nice infield, thats about it, if you go down south, you will see just about anywhere that every aspect of the baseball field and complex are good, something that is lacking in NKY.

In the past, it was the soccer teams that hurt the field. This year, it was just the fact that they weren't planning on playing on the field until winter hit, when they realized there wouldn't be grass on the new field. Max and Coach Vaughn put a lot of their own time and money into the field every year.

I'd agree with that sentiment. In comparison to fields in the Lexington, Louisville, or Ohio area......NKY fields are by far the worst. I personally don't care for the field at Meiken. Aside from St. Henry, here are some of the fields that are "decent" IMO........Scott, NCC, and well.......that's about it.

Well I haven't seen Beechwoods field in 3 years, however if it is the same as it was before then it needs to be in the just plain bad category, because I know for sure that Ludlows field was not worst at than Beechwoods field 3 years ago. However as I said I haven't seen it in 3 years, so it may be better, but if not it deserves to be in the just plain bad as well....

Yes beechwoods field is the same as it was 3 years ago. All dirt infield, no outfield fence and no place to sit. One of the worst fields in the state but they are a pretty good baseball team. So it don't matter what kind of field you play on.

You make a very good point. The field Ludlow uses is Lemker Field, which is separate from the school and owned by the city. I know when I played on it many, many years ago it was one of the best around. You could play there when most teams were being rained out. It drained that good.

I guess it's all about your time. In my day (several hundred years ago I realize) the district tournament for Holmes, Holy Cross, CovCath and Ludlow was routinely played at Lemker because it was the best field around.

Bellevue has one of the best fields in Northern Ky. as the school has put a tremenous amount of time in to it. It is wonderful! Unfortunately they have not done this amount of work to other fields in the district

Any idea how many schools use public fields? I know NCC, Highlands and Ludlow do.
