With Coach Mitchell on his way to UK, Morehead State need not look outside of Rowan County for their next women's head coach!

 

Troy Lee Thomas would be an outstanding choice!!!

 

He is a proven winner - he lives, breathes and sleeps basketball. He would be one heckuva recruiter! He's a Morehead grad and is practically known by every person in the state. He has impeccable connections and would be a winner for the Lady Eagles!!

 

He's mature and knows how to coach!!

 

He hasn't had the talent of some schools in the region, but he's done some great things with the kids he's had. He's always been in the hunt and brought Rowan County girl's basketball tradition back from the dead.

 

I don't know if Troy would even want this job, but he would sure excel at it if given the chance!

I really believe that TLT would be the best possible hire for MSU. I've known TLT for a long time and there wouldn't be a better person to represent Morehead. He would definitely be a Billy Gillispie-type on the recruiting trail and no one teaches defense better than this guy.

I e-mailed Brian today to see if I could plant the TLT seed in his brain, LOL.

Coach Thomas was an assistant under one of the best coaches in the country with Lake Kelly. He was his assistant for Lake Kelly I believe for 4 years. Lake Kelly was at Florida State, Oral Roberts, Austin Peay (twice), and University of Kentucky. I have known Troy for a very long time and I've never seen a person who loves the game more than him. I remember watching games in the Wetherby gym when I was a kid and Lake Kelly was one of the best defensive coaches in the country. Period!! I think Troy would be phenominal at MSU. He would probably put a bed there. HA!

Lake Kelly's defense and emphasis on giving 110% is one of the most successful systems in the country if properly implemented. Troy successfully implemented that system and took the Lady Vikings to the Sweet 16.

I hope he applies and I hope he gets a shot.

Troy Lee Thomas would be an excellent choice. One of the most knowledgeable coaches I have ever met, and kids seem to want to play for him, with talent or without, this guy can flat out get it done and get the most out of what he has to work with.

I'd say they will try to go for someone along the lines of Mitchell. An assistant to a pretty big program wanting some Head coaching experience. Wouldn't be surprised if they had Tennessee/Florida ties as well.

I am sure that is the direction the AD will take or would like to take. Although Hutchison passed on a excellent canidate for the boys job before the current head coach Tendell was hired and that was Kelly Wells. That guy had college coaching experience, a native of Morehead, and contacts all over. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Kelly landed at Pikeville and will do well there, but for the life of me I can't figure out the last selection on the boys end. Good luck Troy Lee if you pursue the opening.
