April 18, 200719 yr Another aspect to consider (and I really don't know the answer). Aren't text messages billable on some cell phones per message and/or air time usage? If so who pays for the bills these kids may run up?
April 18, 200719 yr Good idea in theory, however regulating it will be a difficult task. How would it be any harder then monitoring a coaches long distance phone calls? Don't these thing leave a paper trail like cell phone calls?
April 18, 200719 yr How would it be any harder then monitoring a coaches long distance phone calls? Don't these thing leave a paper trail like cell phone calls? I think you can get them if you really want them but i have a Blackberry and you can send instant mobile to mobile message to other BB users and its not considered a text(and its free) so I don't think that feature is trackable(is that a word).
April 18, 200719 yr IMPOSSIBLE to regulate. The only way they could regulate it would be by having EVERY single college coach in all sports, cell phone number. That's impossible. It will never happen.
April 18, 200719 yr IMPOSSIBLE to regulate. The only way they could regulate it would be by having EVERY single college coach in all sports, cell phone number. That's impossible. It will never happen. As someone mentioned, don't they monitor/track phone calls now? How is this different?
April 18, 200719 yr So there is someone monitoring every cell phone call/message a coach at every college in the US makes???????

April 18, 200719 yr So there is someone monitoring every cell phone call/message a coach at every college in the US makes??????? This is why colleges have compliance departments and big schools have big compliance departments. And yes they can monitor every phone call/text message they send or recieve.
April 18, 200719 yr I have to ask Am I the only one that has more then a little problem with coaches that are paid very well, that most likely don't pay for their cell phones participating in an activity that could cost a high school kid lots of money? If I were the parent of a high schooler and he/she had a huge phone bill because a college coach had sent them numerous text messages I can tell you one coach that my son/daughter wouldn't play for.
April 19, 200719 yr So are e-mails next. The NCAA sure is looking to make it tough on Coaches trying to recruit. Thank god Gillespie loves to recruit.
April 19, 200719 yr So are e-mails next. The NCAA sure is looking to make it tough on Coaches trying to recruit. Thank god Gillespie loves to recruit. I don't know that I would call it "making it tough," seems more like the NCAA would just like to see them do it the traditional way — through phone calls, snail mail and face-to-face contact. Easier to regulate that way.
April 19, 200719 yr They have passed this rule from what i know. I saw on espn this mourning that they just ahd to have someone else sign off on it and it would come into effect.
