Hate to say I told you so. But I told you so. No way this kid was ready for a good D-1 school yet. Rumors of Xavier, Texas A&M, and Winthrop were flying around this site. Here is what I found tonight on Ryan Ernst Blog page, of the Kentucky Enquirer.

Austin Hill to sign ..

The Holmes senior basketball player, who was contacted by several Division I programs, tomorrow will sign with Southeastern Illinois College. The junior college, which also produced Holmes coach David Henley, began recruiting Hill at the Kentucky-Ohio All-Star Game at Thomas More earlier this month. Hill, a 6-2 guard/forward, averaged 19 points a game and helped lead the Bulldogs to the state semifinals.

Holmes teammate Greg Rice, who drew attention from junior colleges, has yet to commit to a program. Both players will try out for the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star team Friday and Saturday at Georgetown College.

In no way am I trying to rag on Austin Hill. The kid is a tremendous player and deserves to be on at least 2nd Team All State. I'll be very disappointed if he's not on the Kentucky All Star team.

POY in NKY as a Junior

POY in 9th Region as a Senior

2 Regional Championsips

He's great kid with a great work ethic that even the CCH fans loved to watch over the years. He plays with so much heart and so much effort. Good Luck Austin! Maybe in 2 years you'll be putting on a Jersey for one of the big schools. Congratulations.

Congrats to Hill. Several Kentucky kids have had success at Southeastern under the direction of Coach Todd Franklin -

Dante Smith from Oldham Co - went straight from JUCO to the NBA Draft

JR Reynolds - I think he played at Muhlenburg North in high school

Ramoan Taylor - Louisville Eastern - JUCO to Eastern Illinois

These are the kids I know off the top of my head.

The word at the Sweet 16 was that Hill's grades would land him at a junior college. It's not a bad destination ... in the league that SIC plays in, he will be seen by a lot of Division I schools over the next two years.

I figure Henley's SIC ties played a role in this ... he played baseball there before finishing up at Southern Illinois University.

Isn't that where Jazz Neal from PRP went a couple years ago??

Congrats to Hill if he keeps his grades up he'll be playing somewhere big eighter after next season or the season after, Hopefully he'll end up at UK at the end.

I think Cory Lonergan--Starting SS @ NKU (Dixie Heights/Baseball) also went there for a year or so before transfering to NKU--Good sports programs!!

Congrats to Mr. Hill on his decision. I had a chance to speak with him and this is probably best for him at this point. He plans to go there for a year or 2 then go D1, which isn't a bad idea. It will give him a little more time to develop since he'll be playing more so when he does go to a D1 program he can step in right away and make an impact.

Holmes senior guard Austin Hill will continue his basketball career at Southeastern Illinois College next season.

Hill accepted a scholarship offer from the junior college to help him prepare for the next level. He said Winthrop, Akron and Marquette are the major colleges still interested in him.

"All the colleges that recruited me, when I told them I was going (to junior college), they all said they'd grab me out of there when I'm finished," Hill said.

Holmes coach David Henley is a graduate of Southeastern Illinois College. He convinced the coaching staff to come and take a look at Hill during the Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game earlier this month.

"It's the best thing for him right now," Henley said of Hill's decision to enroll in the junior college.

"He'll just get better all around, and he'll be doing it against good competition because their league is as good as any junior college league in the country."

Hill was voted Player of the Year by local high school coaches after Holmes won the 9th Region championship and made it to the semifinals of the state tournament in March.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound senior averaged 17.8 points and 5.3 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who won 14 of their last 16 games to finish with a 25-10 record.

Hill visited the Southeastern Illinois College campus during spring break and plans to sign a letter of intent at 3:30 p.m. today in the Holmes athletic office.

He plans to use the junior college as a stepping stone to playing for a major college program.

"It's going to take hard work for me to get there, but I can do it," Hill said. "I feel like this is the best situation for me right now."

I never said he could contribute right away. I said he had the talent to but wouldn't be able to at a larger D1 school until his late soph early jr year. GO back and read my posts and you'll see where I stated that.
