Track the Braves

Ya know, I don't even care if the Braves win the division as long as they make the playoffs. If they can get by the first round they can beat the Mets. LETS GO BRAVES. Win tonight, and if the Reds win then the Braves lead the WC.

Braves last chance coming up in the 9th with the bottom 3 due up. McCann, Johnson, pitchers spot.

Come on guys!

Don't make excuses often but inconsistency by the umpire in the 9th hurt the Braves. 2-1 count to willie harris and a low and inside pitch called a ball all night, was now called a strike. He then grounded out. A 2-1 count to Escobar and the catcher set up outside and caught the ball outside but it was framed at the other batters box, and it was called a strike. HORRIBLE calls in the 9th.

Umpires are inconsistent the whole game. I'd be willing to bet there were bad calls against the Phils as well.

How about people bashing the Texiera trade a couple of weeks ago. He's en fuego...

3-3 on a road trip to the Mets and Phillies is not bad, but it certainly could've been better. You're left with ifs. If they hadn't blown the lead in the middle game with the Mets. If they hadn't taken a 4-0 lead in the first of the first game of the Philly series and then blown it in the bottom. If they had pulled Carlyle before giving up the homer last night, or better yet if they'd turned the double play that would have meant only 1 run of damage by the homer. It couldn't have "easily" been a 6-0 trip, but it could have easily been 4-2 or 5-1 with gaining one or two more games on the Mets instead of just picking up the one game they did.

Figured I'd dust this thread off to vent. I'm a pessimist and so if you don't feel like reading how I'm down on my team right now, then don't read. This has been one of the most disappointing stretches for the Braves. At a time when they badly needed some wins to move back into contention, they've seemingly done everything possible to drop. This series especially should have been PERFECT for the Braves considering that the Padres were playing the Mets at the same time. After Monday, Atlanta was 1 game back of San Diego for the wildcard and 5 back of the Mets for the East and playing a team that was 16 games below .500. Instead of making a move, they lost the last three of the series and managed to fall back to 3 games behind San Diego and 6 back of the Mets. Essentially it's over for their chase in the East. I just don't see them making up that ground. Three game is certainly not insurmountable in the wild card, but the Braves don't pass the eyeball test at this point. They don't look at all like a team that can go to the playoffs, and they certainly aren't pitching well enough to make it. The starters outside of Smoltz and Hudson are a joke most of the time, and Soriano, Wickman, and the rest of the relievers are as frustrating as any pitching lineup I've ever seen. We're seeing a revival of the old Spahn and Sain and pray for rain in Smoltz and Hudson. It's time to stop lauding the Braves front office as being so great when they have done nothing significant to improve the most glaring need in the past several years which has been pitching. For years they dared fate to stop their division streak by letting more and more free agents leave year after year. The result was that they somehow still won the division but flamed out in the playoffs and now they don't even have that. I only hope that when the sale of the team is completed they will once again commit to spending enough money to actually sign free agents, ESPECIALLY PITCHERS. Don't give me this Texiera crap. He's a great hitter but unless the guy suddenly discovers he's a Cy Young pitcher it doesn't help enough. BAH!

I really wanted the Braves to go out and get a good pitcher but they have failed to do so. I was happy with the Tex trade, but felt it wasn't enough apparently. The Braves are not out of it, but this series vs Cincy is a tough one to take. They should have swept both series with the Reds.

They should have swept both series with the Reds.

Why??

Why??

Because I think the Braves are a better team. :D

The Reds won the series with the Braves this season 5-2.

Some may call Teixeira a "great hitter". I don't believe it but to each his own. However, surely no one will call him a "great" clutch hitter. He obviously is not.

Why??

Because the REDS are not very good, BUT they are better than the Braves right now................................

Not since the All Star break they aren't.

Haven't you already went after Teixeira enough in the trade thread?

Come on, halfback20. It never hurts to "crow" when you are proven right. Shoot, that doesn't happen very often.;)
