April 5, 200719 yr Maybe...if he ends up hiring David Hobbs. Wouldn't be great if Barnhart introduced Hobbs as the interim head coach. Then he could go on to build the case that best canidate was already part of the family. Hobbs does have a history of winning games in SEC (never mind the ones he lost). It wouldn't be any more of a downer than the Brooks hire was at the time.
April 5, 200719 yr Is his job on the line with this hire?He took a "No" over a phone call. He really put his all in that one.
April 5, 200719 yr His job may certainly be on the line but I don't think it should be. From what I've been hearing on here ant the radio, more than half of the fans are already disappointed with the new coach. It doesn't matter who the sacrificial lamb might be....it's not Billy Donovan. They'll be a lot of people that will rue the day that Tubby left whether they'll own up to it publically or not. JMO
April 5, 200719 yr This is priceless. He listens to the "vocal minority" and shoves OTS out the door. Then, when he can't land the Hottest Coach on the PLANET, a similar group is ready to run him out of town on rails. Utterly, priceless.

JMO I know. It's absurd. Many of the same people who couldn't wait to get rid of Tubby for anybody else, are now already upset about who are next coach is going to be. It's ridiculous. We didn't get Donovan. So what? He isn't the only coach in America. Have they already forgotten how bad they hated Tubby and that they'd have been happy with anyone else. Now, it's almost as if the new coach is going to be in the same situation as Tubby was following Pitino. Only this coach is going to be, in essence, "following" a guy who was never even the head coach at UK...talk about insanity... Come on guys! Get over it. There are other good coaches who can recruit and coach and get us where we want to be and Mitch Barnhardt will get one of them. He's done it for every other sport, so I have no reason to doubt him in this instance. If it's Billy Donovan or nothing for you, then I suggest you start buying some Florida Gator apparel...

Shouldn't a quality AD have a firm contingency plan in place, BEFORE you send your head coach packing??

Utterly, priceless. :thumb: Barnhardt doesn't strike me as the type who is greatly influenced by outside/fan opinions. I think it was more of his own personal opinion and, from most reports, all Tubby had to do to remain at UK was make some changes on his coaching staff, so I'm not sure it's fair or correct to lay "shoving" Tubby out at Barnhardt's feet. I think he was prepared to bring Tubby back, with changes of course, which wasn't too much to ask considering the way things were going, IMO. I think it was more of a case of Tubby being ready to make a move, due to a number of things, and one of them was certainly the contingent of fans that didn't like him.
April 5, 200719 yr I think MB has big pressure on his shoulders. If he does not hire someone who is successfull in 3 years I think they both will be gone. IMO
April 5, 200719 yr Shouldn't a quality AD have a firm contingency plan in place, BEFORE you send your head coach packing?? I missed the report that said Tubby got fired...unless asking a coach who's been struggling to recruit to make some changes on his staff is the same as firing him.
April 5, 200719 yr Is his job on the line with this hire? YES YES YES....people can say he is doing great blah, blah, blah...but if the next guy comes in and tanks...he and Barnhart will get the axe...and then UK will spend millions upon millions bringing in a new AD and men's coach.
