You're wrong. How many lacrosse fans are there in the United States? How many basketball fans? Basketball fans will tune in to watch good teams in the tournament.

Ratings suffer in every sport when there are no "name" teams in the tournaments. Television contracts are based on teams like the Yankees in baseball, the Cowboys in football, Notre Dames in college football, and, yes, the Dukes and Kentuckys in college basketball. It is because of the success of those teams in their respective sports that everyone benefits. They put butts in the stands, and more importantly, butts in front of the television.

 

And BTW, if throngs of people wanted to watch good, fundamental basketball, the ladies title game wouldn't have been on ESPN last night;)

UNLV was a three ring circus with an NCAA bad boy as a coach. They were a story by themselves.

Sounds like K-State did a poor job of negotiating their share of the pie. Why should that be UK's problem.

Sorry but UK financially carried the conference in basketball for decades. It more than evens out for being the beneficiary of the football powers.

Kentucky benefits FAR more from Florida's success in the tournament than Florida benfits by the number of fans Kentucky sent to Chicago.

 

A full half of the money paid out from the tournament goes to the conferences to be divided up based on performance. So UK will be getting a big, fat check based on Florida's repeat.

But Florida was also already getting it done in Football. Now Florida is footing the bills in both, so UK fans can't counter the supposed remarks of Florida's president by saying that UK carries the water for Florida in basketball. Clearly, that's not the case currently.

Agreed.

Unfortunately when UF joined a conference they knew what they were getting into as far as revenue sharing. If they don't like it perhaps they should go the way of the Irish and do it alone. Then they could keep all their precious money.

Their game with UCLA--which should have had everything, the defending national champs and the team with the most titles ever--came in 10th in the ratings for the week. Even getting beaten by Shark. As for the women's ratings, they'll be lucky to break the CABLE top 10 this week.
