June 7, 200719 yr Author Okay, still frees up space for a deal that sends out 1 ML player and brings back 2 ML players....and hopefully some minor league young prospects. Sure does sound that way on the surface...
June 7, 200719 yr You really believe they can jump 5 teams and get to the top of this division? No chance. It's over... If 4 of the 5 teams weren't sub .500 teams (and the 5th one ain't a ton better), I'd agree. This is one bad division. Someone puts together a solid run and they can jump over a bunch in a hurry. Real shame to call it quits 60 games into a 162-game season without having made any serious attempt to reverse direction - short of calling up the Savior.

You really believe Bucky Dent is the answer? How do they get back in it? What do you give up for pen help that isn't out there? What do you give up for a 4th or 5th starter being paid like a #2? If what they have doesn't get them back in the race, what will? It's still going to be a bad division next year...

I'm not a general manager, remember? I'm a coach. But I do know one thing that won't give them a chance to make a run - stay the exact same course with the exact same players and/or the exact same manager. Yes, season over. Time to focus on Bengals. I was just thinking June 7th was a tad early for that . . .

June 7, 200719 yr I wish it wasn't. But it is... Well, we'll have to remember not to recommend you as a motivational speaker for the team should they ever need one . . . .
June 7, 200719 yr How about Dunn to the Nationals for Cordero (closer...hooray) and Ryan Church? The only downside (or one of them) is that Church also hits left-handed.

June 7, 200719 yr You know LP would love to get Dunner back with his bff... The funny / sad thing is I think both guys would be thrilled. I'll say this, "flat bill" would help the Reds immensely. For the record, I don't think the Reds are officially out of it yet -- as crazy as that sounds. Is it likely they'll get back in it...no. However, a 5 or 6 game winning streak could vault them into 2nd and that eliminates your "jumping over 5 teams" scenario. Again -- NOT LIKELY.

The good news is, they are in the worst Division in Baseball, with only 1 team over .500....anything can happen.
June 7, 200719 yr Tonight's line-up... Hatteberg 3 Castro 6 Griffey 9 Phillips 4 Dunn 7 Encarnacion 5 Hamilton 8 Ross 2 Lohse 1
