"Based on everything he went through physically, it didn’t make sense to do it for one game. Locking up Arroyo and Harang. Brandon Phillips. Gonzo. Hamilton. Lohse would have been the #2 starter when Kriv took over. Hatte. Finding someone willing to trade a bucket of balls and some Big League Chew for LaRue. Ross.

 

He's been on the job FIFTEEN months and was handed a 3 year at best project to rebuild.

D'oh, forgot to put up there that Dunn's sick. He said yesterday he was in a lot of pain. He has a sinus infection, that began in Houston and didn't get any better coming to this altitude. He said, "If the pressure doesn't go away in the plane back to St. Louis, I'll have to parachute out."

 

Dunn said he was absolutely miserable yesterday. He was originally scheduled to start today with Griffey getting the day off, but the lineup was changed to put Griffey in and Dunn out. Griffey said Freel already owes him seven innings, now he's got 16 coming to him with another nine from Dunn.

So in 2009 the Reds are in the playoffs? If I thought that was possible I guess i could live with the pain now. Since most of todays team wont or shouldnt be here in a year in a half, who do you project these playoff bound Reds to be? Players that will not be part of the 2009 Reds championship team:

1. Jr

2. Dunn, I know hes under contract but a championship team can,t live with 200 plus strikeouts

3. All the catchers

4. E-5 ? maybe?

5. All the 1st basemen

6. Freel

7. Gonzalez

8. Hamilton, his agent gets him out

9. The whole bullpen.

I just don't see a playoff team in a year and a half. If Krivsky can pull it off then he is GM of the year.

So now that we know Griffey was getting the day off it was a good idea not to put Hamilton on the plane to help the big club. The Bats really needed him in the lineup yesterday and today. Is Hamilton not traveling the rest of the year?

I wish people would stop thinking of Javy as a catcher. He's caught what, a grand total of 27 innings all year? He's a PH specialist, and one of the best in the game.

 

The fact that you have fielding versatility in the form of Freel, Castro, Conine and Hopper means that keeping "an extra catcher" isn't that big a deal.
