With Arroyo and Harang locked up, you can use this cash to lock up what you determine to be the core guys on offense for the future. The minors are more stocked than they have been in 20+ years. And it's with pitchers first and foremost. That means it's less likely you have to rely on scrap heap type veterans at 3 and 4 million a year out of the pen. Dan O' started that, and it was the one good thing he did while he was here. Here's what the masses can't seem to grasp. Krivsky was hired to turn this into a system like the Twins, and it was the farthest thing from that as you can get. It's a winning model to follow in this type of market. What we had under Leather Pants was a total disaster. Any good young arms were moved the minute he could get the next big 5 tool player. And since the pitching prospects were so few and far between it crippled the system. His picture perfect team was a beer league softball champion, not a mid sized market winning franchise. Was it fun to watch at times, sure. But it was never a long term plan for success. That's what the new system provides. Unless we blow it up before it takes hold and start over again. They played a bad two months of baseball. It's no reason to go in ANOTHER new direction...

Everyone knew going in it was a bad division, and they were right in it to the end last year. But the play between the lines has not lived up to expectations. The good news is it's still a bad division and two awful months didn't sink the season yet. But you'll continue to look at the negative side of everything, and we'll keep having these debates...
