He looked clueless at the plate, I agree. But looked solid defensively. Time to let another backstop play today IMO. Hard to say that after 2 games with a day of rest in between, that a guy needs to sit, but I hope Valentin gets his plate appearances this afternoon. And since you were in attendance, did Arroyo look as good live as he did on the tube? He's a wiffle ball pitcher. Back in the day, you could take those wiffle balls and make them do what he makes the real thing do. But Brantley said it best when he said that Arroyo sometimes needs to just make certain guys put it in play. Sort of like with Izturis last night. Got behind with the wiffle ball stuff and should have fed him a dose of "hit me" stuff.

Josh Hamilton is scheduled to start in CF today (12:35) and I'd guess Moeller (or Valentin) will be behind the dish. Ross needs a day -- he has looked absolutely lost at the plate in the first two games.

I have a pretty good angle to judge pitch movement, and yes, his ball was dancing. The first pitch to Derrek Lee in his first at-bat started out behind his hip and ended up being a called strike. The pitch he struck Soriano out on in the first started in the middle of the place and would have had a left-handed swinger dancing out of the way. Filthy.

 

Lilly's ball didn't have the same movement, but had the huge velocity difference. His 1 was hitting 88-90 and his breaking stuff was in the 66-72 range. That is hard to stay on. He'll still end up with an era north of 4.50, but until everyone gets a book on him, he'll be solid. Dunn broke a bat on his first three AB's -- and one of them hit off the wall. They were just never able to square Lilly up -- if Ted faces these guys in the July series at GABP he'll give up 5 earned in 5 innings. Guarantee.

Yeah, I was a HUGE fan of Morandini during his years in Philly and I felt for A LOT of people on that team that missed out on the ring, but especially him.

Lohse has not had a 3 up, 3 down inning yet. Allowed baserunners, BUT just given up the 1 run. Cubs unable to drive in a couple runners in scoring position with 2 outs.

 

Lohse has thrown nothing but strikes though, so at least he hasn't allowed any free passes or thrown it all over the plate.

So Double E gets a clutch 2 out hit and ties the game up.

 

Too bad the Cubs can't get any of those, ALTHOUGH they did get one last night, so maybe I just need to be happy with one clutch hit a series.

Lohse has the game tied up and he comes out the next inning, walks the leadoff man and he scores. Course Griffey helped out with that error.

 

Dunn has a chance to even things up in the bottom of the inning and strikes out. He can't come through all the time, but he does enjoy striking out.

The Cubs showing that quality base running they are known for.

 

As much as the Reds have struggled, they are one hit away from tying this thing up.

 

Lohse pitches pretty darn well and could get tagged with the loss.

So the Reds get another big time clutch 2 out hit and tie the game up.

 

I guess its only fair that neither Lohse or Marquis get a decision.
