What Somerset has that none of its district competitors have is tradition. Garrard County is probably the second most tradition "rich" school in the district, finishing second in the region in 1967, 1993 and 1995. After that, Taylor County and Wayne County have each only won three playoff games, and Taylor's all came in 1999 when they made that run to the state semifinals. Casey County has never won a playoff game in five appearances and Jackson County is only in their second year of football. Therefore based upon that I would call Somerset the favorite, along with the fact that they return a good deal of talent.

 

What the new six-class system will allow for is some schools like those in this district to have some postseason success, something that has long been lacking.

I'm just glad that it is almost that time of year again to be talking about football, not that I don't think about it all year long. I look for Somerset to be very good again this year while contending for another regional championship.

I know about the tradition. I am a former Briar Jumper. I don't get to see them much. I have coaching responsibilities at my current school. The other programs will have to elevate their play.

No he is done playing football. He is attending a small college in Georgia. I really couldn't tell you if they have a football team.

Mercer County and Somerset have week 2 open. I believe there is talks of the two hooking up on that date at Mercer's bowl game. Any of you Jumper faithful know if that is going to happen or not?!
