Let's see Ty Proffitt was the odds on favorite to win Mr. Basketball this year; Right? Let's look outside the box alitte bit because the "best player" in the state doesn't always win. What about the Stepp kid from JBHS winning he could end being the states all time leading scorer when done.

Stepp is a very good player! I really enjoyed watching him! Now I dont think he is up there with Mackey and Miller, but I believe he is right there in the 2nd tier of players.

IMO Miller will be named Mr. Basketball next year.

He's descent, but plays no team ball at all and has an attitude problem. I know your thinking well look at his assist per game, well I watched him play a couple times and never seen him pass the ball over three times while taking probabily 40 shots so I have no clue how he averages that many assist. But anyway maybe I just watched the wrong games but If anyone deserves to be talked about for Mr. Basketball(for their class) on that team it has to be Tate Cox. He's unselfish, plays hard, and dosen't any recoginition at all because the Stepps seem to be out to make Clark look like an All-American when the best player in that region dosen't get any exposue. I have nothing against the Stepps personally, they could be the best people in the world as far as I know, but I really think its sad that kids with more talent get overlooked because of their last name. Thats just my opinion but I can think of at least 4 players in the weak 14th region better than Stepp. Thats why I do not understand his name being thrown into the Mr. Basketball conversation...but thats all I'm going top say abou that I've already said to much as it is...lol:thumb:

Good question..I'm not a 14th region guy but from what I've seen this is my opinion.

 

1.Cox-JBS

2.Smith-Breathitt

3.Campbell-Hazard

4.Puckett-Jenkins(plays on a bad team and dosen't get the recognition, kind of like Pelle at Silver Grove this past season. He put up like 40 something against JBS I believe)

 

-Stepp-JBS and Hurt-Cordia are pretty close for 5th, but Hurt plays on a bad team also, but thats my honest opinion from what I've seen. None of these kids don't have the oppertunity to get exposure and and shoot 40 shots a game and have their stats beefed up, not even Cox.:thumb:

Just for the record, Landon Slone is BY FAR the best player in Eastern Kentucky for next season. I don't think anyone is really close to him. I'd probabily put Desmond Johnson 2nd and Tate Cox 3rd as far as Mountain players.

Yeah I disagree. I think Stepp is a better player than Cox. The kid can play. You can try to take that away from him all you want, but I think he is a talented player. I don't think hes a top 5 player in the state, but I think he is a nice player though.

I totally disagree with this but we both get to state our opinions. Slone scores 51 as a freshman & hasn't completely live up to that since. He is a very good player but IMO Stepp and Hicks are better. Just IMO

I can't say much about Hicks, he's impressed me everytime I've seen him but he graduated. As far as Stepp goes I don't think he's even close to Slone talent wise. Slone is versitile enough to play any posistion on the floor, he's one of the top defenders in the 15th region, he averaged 8 rebounds a game and has learned to play team basketball, and I believe he can get to the rim as good as anyone in the state. He's eaisly the best all around player in this area. Like you said we each have a right to our opinions but IMO Stepp is not even in the same league with Slone. I respect what your saying though.:thumb:

 

I think the reason Landon's "not lived up to expectations" is because of that hyped paintsville team not reaching the sweet 16, but hes averaged around 23ppg or something like that for 3 seasons and last season nearly averaged a double double and somewhere around 4-5 assist I think, he can't do a whole lot more than what hes done.. thats jmo of why he's gone off the radar a little bit in the Mr. Basketball talk.

I can respect what your saying, and I'm not trying top take anything away from him at all just stating my honest opinion. If he played team ball JBS would be even more competitive and Stepp would be looked upon as a better more complete player...imo.

Using that argument as of right now there is no one in the same class as Miller and Mackey (Hopson has the talent, but lacks everything else).

The fact is Slone is a great player as is Stepp. Both are 2 of the best players in the mountains and both can play basically anywhere IMO high school wise.

Nice post, it's hard to compare anyone to Miller IMO. I wouldn't even go as far as to compare Mackey to him. He's that much better than everyone else in his class IMHO. Mackey would be second on my list however.
