I agree with 5 in this group however the most overrated player in the class of 08" since his freshman year is Slone. He is a really good player but no where near the top 6. I feel expectations like this have hurt him over the years. That & the fact of how his team has so much termoil

Who would you put ahead of him, thats not listed on my list? When he plays his "A" their is not a better ALL-AROUND player in the state. Better athletes yes but as far as Defensively, shooting, passing, getting to the rim, getting to the foul line, rebounding....etc. I've never been a Paintsville fan but he's earned all the attention he gets, hes been double and triple teamed every game since he's been in HS and he still puts up those kind of number, and Paintsville played some of the top competition in the state last season. I mean everyone is free to their opinion, but i've always liked Slones game.

East Bank, If Slone has been double and triple teamed since his freshmen year then it is even more astonishing that Paintsville has not won their region! With the other talent on that team & him being gaurded this way 1 or 2 others should be able to pull the slack or is Slone forcing shots when he is being double & tripled teamed therefore not allowing others to help?

Before next season their will be more names added to the list.

These are the top 6 imo for next years class.

Top 3:

Miller-Mason Co., Hopson-UHA, Mackey-Scott County

Next 3:

Henderson-Holmes, Slone-Paintsville, Mack-Bryan Station

a few more will sneak into the mix as well.

On further reflection, I would put both Tyler Brown (Apollo) and Tyshawn Edmondson (University Heights) above Slone.

What a coincidence. Both are from Western Ky. I am glad you support people from your area, but why cut down other players?

I really liked the couple of games I saw him play at the All "A" this year. Edmundson was a much bigger factor in the Brossart game than Hopson. He reminded me a lot of Corey Pelle, as he plays with reckless abandon!!

He matured more as a player this season and forced less shots this season than in previous seasons, he had a couple games where he had double figures in assists I believe and I think one game he had 17-19 rebounds, which is pretty astonishing since he is a wing player. I think the answer to your question is simple, Incosistancy. At times I think Landon worried about what others said or thought about him and actually tryied to be to unselfish at times when he could have scored, but the truth is he dosen't have as much help as most think on that team. Grimm is a garbage player and gets most the garbage points and VanHoose will have 20 one night and the next night may have 5. My opinion is if slone dosen't score his points they usually have trouble and he dosen't force as many shots as you would think and at times maybe he should. Anyway here an example of the inconsistancy I was talking about team wise: Last season they played two teams that was in the sweet 16. They beat Elliott Co.60-53 and lost nearly beat a very good SL team 57-58. Then later on in the season they lose to weak Magoffin team in their district. I don't know if thats the best example in the world but than is an example of the inconsistancy with that team.

Thats what I was thinking, I do Like Edmondson's game however. He's underrated mostly because of the hype of Hopson.

I don't live within an hour of either one of them.

Besides, why does it matter where they are from? They're both fine players.

And how am I putting Slone down by naming two players I think are better?

Saying he is not a Mr. Basketball candidate and that other players are better in my book is putting him down. And you should atleast try to hide your Western Ky bias for credibility purposes.

Gee, if stating a player isn't a Mr. Basketball candidate is "putting him down," then I'm putting down 99.5 percent of the players in this state.

I'll put my credibility and objectivity against anyone's, thank you.

And if I'm such a homer for western Kentucky, why have I been critical of Hopson? Why wasn't I touting anyone from the region I live in (or anyone else from the west, for that matter) as a state contender this year?

When other people are saying that he has a shot to be a candidate, and before the season even starts you begin to shoot that down, that is putting down a player IMO.

As for Hopson, its impossible to not be critical of Hopson. There is no reason why his team should not have been very good this season.

Slone is a decent player, but he's not a Mr. Basketball-caliber player nor is he one of the top half-dozen players in the state, in my opinion. That's all there is to it.

You apparently have it out for me, and I suppose I know the roots of that.

Now that I think of him, I would put Victor Moses ahead of Slone, too.

Does that make me a Lexington homer, too?

Like it or not Slone's name will be thrown into the mix if its just briefly, he was 2nd team all state this season as a Junior.
