March 26, 200719 yr Rumblings abound that Stan Heath will be shown the door and that Billy Gillespie will be the next coach at Arkansas. Nothing concrete, but it looks like something may happen this week.
March 26, 200719 yr While reading the KU sight last week I ran upon a thread about Gillespie to Arkansas created by a Hog fan, I know that guy was pretty excited about the possibilities. It would be a good thing for the league.
March 26, 200719 yr If this is true, could it mean anything about the UK situation. If rumors about Barnhart having contacted Gillespie about the UK job are true, wouldn't you think Gillespie would wait on UK before accepting another job.
March 26, 200719 yr Would be a step down or lateral move at best for Gillespie if you ask me. Depends on how you look at it. Gillespie has made A&M what it is, when it used to be a perenial doormat in the Big XII. At least Arkansas has tasted a NC in the last twenty years.
March 26, 200719 yr Would be a step down or lateral move at best for Gillespie if you ask me. Make the comparison of Florida-to-Kentucky. Today, they are on even terms, or probably Florida is a bit ahead of Kentucky. But historically, its no contest. Kentucky is a basketball school with decades of history and success. Now, Texas A&M is probably slightly ahead of Arkansas today. But historically, its no contest. Arkansas is a traditional basketball power (at least traditionally a top-20 program) with decades of history and success. A&M's success has been recent. If I'm Gillespie and I'm not offered UK, I would take the Arkansas job and leave A&M. In the long run it can be a better job.

March 26, 200719 yr What if Gillespie went to Arkansas, Donovan to Kentucky and Calipari to Florida? I think that's exactly how things will turn out.
