March 23, 200719 yr If you think Pearl and Stallings are better coaches because they are farther in the tourney this year then I don't know what to say. Because thats really all you are saying. Well Stallings is riding a, what, 4? 5 game winning streak over Tubby. He's doing something right. Sure Tubby beat Pearl once this year, but if you'll recall, UT was a little shorthanded that game.

Trying to justify that they are better than Tubby over one year.
March 23, 200719 yr Are you kidding? You are talking about 1 year. Trying to justify that they are better than Tubby over one year. UK hasn't beaten Stallings in 2 years. Florida in what? 3? Keep in mind, these coaches are IN THE DIVISION. I'm not even bothering to venture out into the rest of the country. I agree that Tubby is a good coach, but acting like he's irreplaceable is pretty humorous.
March 23, 200719 yr Division 1 records Pearl 132-57 Donovan 292-123 Stallings 267-170 Smith 365-133 Tubby has a higher winning % than all three... Shortsighted as usual...

How farsighted do we have to be? Can we only look at his 1998 title? Can we not look that he's dragging that oh so often referred to winning percentage down quickly?

March 23, 200719 yr I like to measure my coaches by wins and losses over the long haul, not just what have you done for me lately(where would UF be if they had fired Billy D after he went 0-9 against UK???).
March 23, 200719 yr If you think Pearl and Stallings are better Coaches then Tubby then I don't know what to say. :thumb: One can make an argument that Billy D is in the same class with Smith, but you are getting out GT's go-go gadget arms with Stallings and Pearl.
March 23, 200719 yr I'm not a huge TBer or Supporter, but I'm not quite so doom and gloom. A good coach will come in with little to no drop off. Tubby was failing to prove that he could turn the program around, and showed by leaving that he was unwilling to make any major staff changes. Tubby is a great man and a good coach. He will be missed, but UK will rebound (quickly IMO) and move on. If say a Calapari or someone like that came here, and brought his recruits for next year with him, and if no one transfer then yeah we might not see much of a drop off from this year. However there is a very small chance that a new coach will be able to keep everyone on the team. So most likely we will be set back a year or two now because of this...
March 23, 200719 yr If you think Pearl and Stallings are better Coaches then Tubby then I don't know what to say. I don't, but they've been producing better results, and they won't even make the long list for his replacement. I just want everyone to stop and breathe. Tubby wasn't, isn't, and won't be the best coach around. He's good. Probably very good, but not GREAT. He can be and will be replaced by someone as good or better.

I think UK will land a top-tier coach and I don't realistically expect more than a few extra losses from this year.

Yet most college basketball experts and basketball coaches around the nation would completely disagree with on that statement...
March 23, 200719 yr I think UK will land a top-tier coach and I don't realistically expect more than a few extra losses from this year. It really will all depend on if the new coach can keep the guys on the team. We have to assume that if there was any chance Morris might come back is gone now. And if a couple of the freshman from this year decide to leave as well, then we are in big trouble no matter what coach we bring in...
