April 3, 200719 yr Author Not trying to be funny here, but it's a long border. How do you secure it? Hire more boarder agents and SUPPORT THEM, Rotating National Guard troops, change the laws and allow Armed forces troops to do that job, and rotate them.
April 3, 200719 yr Not trying to be funny here, but it's a long border. How do you secure it? I already mentioned it in another thread, if you want to do it cost effectively with no regard for the lives of those trying to get here illegally.
April 3, 200719 yr Not trying to be funny here, but it's a long border. How do you secure it? My #1 and #3 are cut and dry. I agree my #2 is more of a statement of the problem rather than a solution. Off the top of my head I would try several things including more border agents, some fencing in high traveled areas, military training exercises, local law enforcement stings, 1-800-GRAB-ALI, etc. My #1 and #3 are the biggies, #2 is for good measure.
April 3, 200719 yr 'Tis a tough situation. On one hand, there are a great number surging in, just taking up our precious US of American space. On the otherhand, our ancestors did the same thing. But then you've got to realize that times have indeed changed and this nation is much more established and money is being drained by all of the illegal aliens that use our hospitals and send their children to our public schools yet don't pay taxes. On the other hand, they do all the jobs no US of Americans want to take, and for very, very cheap. I could go on and on and back and forth, but for myself, personally, I have one simple solution: Annex Mexico. Sure, things will have to get really bilingual, but so what? It'd be rough for a lot of us, but 2 languages is nothing in this world. What's the old saying? What are if if you speak two languages? Bilingual. What are you if you speak one language? American. I'd be willing to bet that Europeans can probably speak an average of 2 or 3 languages fluently and know a bit of several others. That, of course, is a complete assumption on my part and I could be very wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me. Anyway, as far as annexing Mexico goes, it'd be a very long and hard process of getting all of the medical records and all that jazz of all Mexican citizens and then making them pay taxes, but think of the (probably VERY far in the) future benefits... No more passports and international flights to Cancun or Cozumel... no more border wars... no more immigration problems. Hahahahaha. Sorry, I didn't get any good April Fools jokes in. But if only it were so simple.
April 3, 200719 yr http://www.gao.gov/htext/d05646r.htmlFrom your own cite: Several things should be noted regarding our analysis. First, an arrest does not necessarily result in a prosecution or a conviction. Second, our analysis is limited to the aliens that ICE determined to have entered the United States illegally. Third, since all arrests for an individual may not be recorded in IAFIS, our data represent the minimum number of arrests for these illegal aliens. Last, our analysis is not designed to infer conclusions about the arrest history of other illegal aliens not in our study population who entered the country illegally and have been arrested.
April 3, 200719 yr More from your own cite: Criminal offense: Homicide; Total offenses: Number: 5,992; Total offenses: Percent: 1%; So there were a total of roughly 6000 ARRESTS (not prosecutions or convictions) of illegal aliens for homicide, which includes murder, manslaughter and homicide. Over how great a time span? Eighty-one percent of all arrests occurred after 1990. So I guess I'm still looking for enlightenment on how we reach either of the two made up numbers we've been discussing. Since an even distribution over 16.5 years (and I'm being generous, since only 81% of all arrests occured after '91) gives us 363 murders a year. It drops to 294 a year over the past 16.5 when we remove 19%. And if you think about it, even that's generous, as murder arrests are the most likely to still be in jail more than 10 years after arrest for the offense. Still a tragic number, but hardly the near the fearmongering ones that're being thrown around.
April 3, 200719 yr Here are the conviction numbers for all offenses in the Federal System: Offense: Totals; Number: 18,581 How many homicide convictions? 13. 13 out of 18,581.
April 3, 200719 yr Hey, I'm honest enough to post some facts even if some of the claims dispute my original post. Can you link some of your own sources?
April 3, 200719 yr I already mentioned it in another thread, if you want to do it cost effectively with no regard for the lives of those trying to get here illegally. We are not going there again are we?
April 3, 200719 yr When I got into law enforcement some time ago, the national take on illegal immigrants was pretty simple. You make an arrest and somebody from INS comes and deports. But with the influx of illegal immigrants due to unsecured borders (as the guru said) and lax legislation preventing illegals from taking residency in the US, those days are long gone. America needs to get back there I believe.
April 3, 200719 yr I think that I asked this before and didn't get an answer, so I will try again: Does anyone know the process for becoming a legal citizen. I mean, if I were from Mexico and I wanted to move to the US to give my children opportunities for a better future and I was a hardworking, law abiding citizen, what process would I have to complete to legally bring my family to the US?
