March 21, 200719 yr Author From my understanding, for that to happen, a Constitutional Amemdment would have to be passed to allow them to do so. True, I think they need to make those changes. I believe that is a huge problem and the illegal know this, it's almost impossible for them to get deported unless they are caught by a federal agency. There is a sheriff just north of Cincinnati for Butler Co. who in the past has sent bills to Mexico for the housing of prisoners who are illegal, he has now started to send bills to the US federal government, as the cost of housing them is putting a strain on his funds. He hasn't received payment from either yet.
March 21, 200719 yr Why even bother jailing them if they aren't causing problems? America's economy would collapse without their work...
March 21, 200719 yr I think they are causing problems with identity theft, using tax services such as health care and education but not paying any money back into the system to ensure its existance. We have enough crime from people here legally to have to deal with crime from those who shouldn't even be here, don't ya think.
March 21, 200719 yr I don't know of a workable solution to the issue, but as far as LEGAL immigrants go, there are many obstacles to citizenship. If I could come here illegally and not go through some of the red tape, and not be caught, I would.
April 2, 200719 yr I just listened to the Bill Cunningham show WLW 700 Cincinnati show on illegal immigrants and could not believe what I heard. If you don't think that this is the most important issue facing American today think again. 9,000 American are killed by illegal immigrants each year, 3,000 via car accidents and the other 6,000 homicides. The border states (Texas,Calf., Ari., NM) are getting more dangerous by the day as gangs controlled by drug lords cross the boirder at will doing whatever they please. The democrats in Washington need to wake up and put the focus on the real problem this country faces and it is not the middle east.

WHY are the numbers different from this thread from last week? I mean, did illegal aliens murder almost FOUR THOUSAND AMERICANS this week? No. It's just estimation. No proof, no sound peer-reviewed methodology, and no legitimacy. Again, I have zero contention that this is not a very serious issue. But if people are going to throw things around as facts, we all need to know what's really going on.

We have enough crime from people here legally to have to deal with crime from those who shouldn't even be here, don't ya think. Here's the problem with that argument. Those are contigency crimes. If we had a legal migrant worker program with real federal enforcement, those problems disappear. That's like arguing that drugs should be illegal because gangs kill for drugs, when the fact that drugs are illegal drives most of drug-related crime.

April 3, 200719 yr Three things need to happen if we want to take control of this situation: 1. State and local law enforcement needs to have the legal authority to enforce the federal immigration laws. ICE (I have worked with them and been trained by them) have only a fraction of the manpower needed to address the situation and they don't respond to anything other than an overwhelming problem. 2. We need to secure our borders. 3. We need National ID Cards. Also, if we ever go this route there needs to be legislation in place first making any type of forgery of or possession of forged National ID Cards a serious felony with mandatory jail time.
April 3, 200719 yr 2. We need to secure our borders. Not trying to be funny here, but it's a long border. How do you secure it?
