The only smoking at Great American Ball Park this season will come from the center-field smokestacks after a strikeout.

 

The Reds Thursday declared the entire stadium non-smoking, the team's first official response to Ohio voters' passage in November of a statewide smoking ban. Fans won't be able to leave the ballpark to smoke, then re-enter.

 

If Reds employees see a smoker, they'll hand that person a card describing the new law and ask them to extinguish the cigarette, vice president of ballpark operations Declan Mullin said.

Just sad, I'm old enough to remember when you could still smoke on planes.

 

In a small office or a small setting, FINE, I can understand the need to have a smoker go outside or elsewhere. BUT a bar, an open air venue, just wrong.

 

I have never had a cigarette in my life, but treating smokers like lepers isn't going to solve anything. To quote a great comedian.

 

"Do you know any second hand smokers?"

"Do you know anyone that gets in a stressful situation, has to leave and go down to the local bar and take in some second hand smoke."

 

Second hand smoke is not addictive and I would say it's ONLY a problem if you live with someone in a broom closet 24/7 and take it in all day.

Now the bathrooms will be my designated smoking area. The area behind center field being smoke free is a JOKE.

I have sat at Reds' games before with my daughter who is allergic to smoke and the jerk two seats from her would smoke throughout the game while sitting in his seat.

Let me AMEND my statement, there should be a ban for idiots who continue to smoke after being told that it is offensive and/or allergic to others. : )

I dont smoke, never have, never will. I personally am glad that places do this, however I find it stupid that people cant smoke in bars.

We have rules and laws because of the idiots. People act with common sense and responsibility in this country and we would have a lot fewer rules.

 

One of the mantra's I preach to my students. Do what you should/are supposed to do and you will stay out of trouble. You get in trouble not because anyone is picking on you but because you are acting like a butt.

The Reds had no choice. You can thank the Ohio voters for the smoking ban.

I think this whole thing started in California and every state has picked up on it since then. More states are picking up on it, I should say.

That's crazy though. It's been banned in seat for a long time now. However, smoking back by the river in center field can't possibly bother anyone unless they walk out of their way to get in my smoke.

I was sitting at the bar at Friday's and a lady complained about me smoking. The fact that she was 300 pounds, loud, and I had to move every time she walked by bothered me, but I didn't mention it. If my smoking was repulsive I was glad I repulsed her out of the restaurant.

Great move by the Reds!! There are countless people out there that will go to more ballgames because of the (now) clean air.

 

Our seats were not in the smoking area; but the smoke would blow in from the area where people could smoke. It made it quite difficult for me to breathe at times.
