If Mitch does that he can avoid paying Tubby a lot of bonus money and incentive money, if Tubby, indeed walks away. IF this "rumor" is true, its really interesting. Tubby is VERY loyal to his assistants, he showed that last year when they should have been canned.

I see that more as Mitch manning up. It'd be chess if Tubby had any say. :lol:

I dont think it will be much of a chess match, because I mean Mitch wanted him to make changes last year, and Tubby didn't because he said things would work out. But now after this year, Tubby will know they he can't talk his way into keeping these assistants into two years in a row...

But he is a loyal man. Very loyal, I don't think he will respond well to Mitch telling him to can his assistants and or friends. Th real question is; does Mitch already know that?

March 7, 200719 yr I think this is only one of many major steps and events between now and the offseason between Mitch and Tubbs. 90/10 Tubby will return next season, but in that 10% is a lot of factors that will have an effect on Smith's job.
March 7, 200719 yr Rigot and Hanson are the two most likely, but that was evident before Gabriel made mention of it tonight. Coach Hobbs is a decent bench coach. He and Tubby have been the front and center guys on Patterson. Heck, Hobbs was out recruiting a few weeks back and that is unusual for an associate head coach this time of year. Tubby tried to get rid of Hanson last year. All of this talk that he didn't want to get rid of anybody is pure bunk. If Tubby wants to keep his job, he will have to dump someone. I remember Rich Brooks saying he wouldn't get rid of anyone. Then Ron Hudson fell by the wayside. That was an order from up above. Hudson resigned on his own, but that was just a formality.
March 7, 200719 yr I'm sure Tubby has been told by someone who's opinion he values more than Barnharts he needs to make changes. John Lucas would be a great addition, and as bad as we need Patterson I think we may need Lucas even more.
March 7, 200719 yr Unless the assistants leave on their own when they hear the administration's demands to be noble to Tubby, I could see Tubby refusing to cut his help to save his job...maybe after his loyalty bonus coming in a few weeks.
March 7, 200719 yr If Tubby gets fired, what is his pay-out? Anyone know for sure. The higher the number the less the power that Barnhart has in the situation. JMO.
