March 7, 200719 yr His sources tell him that two UK assistants will be asked to move on at the end of the season. I got news for you- Mitch and the athletic board sat down with Tubby after LAST season and told him he is still their man but he needed to get rid of 2 asst. coaches who were bringing nothing to the table. Tubby AGREED with them but then did NOTHING. That's why Mitch is a little luke warm to him right now. FACT!
March 7, 200719 yr If Tubby gets fired, what is his pay-out? Anyone know for sure. The higher the number the less the power that Barnhart has in the situation. JMO. I think its something like $4 million.
March 7, 200719 yr I think its something like $4 million. For four million bucks maybe Tubby calls his bluff.
March 7, 200719 yr If Tubby gets fired, what is his pay-out? Anyone know for sure. The higher the number the less the power that Barnhart has in the situation. JMO. I think there are plenty of people (with plenty of money) who are frustrated and willing to pay the money necessary...
March 7, 200719 yr I think he should can all his assistants with the exception of the strength coach. He's new and should be given a chance. I think he should bring in a recruiting coach that is proven, bring in a run n gun offensive coach and Tubby coach defense, he's proven he's good at that. I'd also like to see them bring in a coach specifically for big men, from watching our big guys this year it sure couldn't hur.
March 7, 200719 yr Happens all the time if you sub father for AAU coach, etc. Can anyone say Allen Houston?
March 7, 200719 yr When was the last time you heard of a d-1 coach getting fired because he refused to get rid of an assistant or two? That would never be the public reason given, and most HCs are worried enough about their jobs that they'll cut loose assistants even if they're not the main problem.
March 7, 200719 yr While I have been saying since October that Hanson and Rigot needed to be let go, I hate to see a story like this break before the season is over with. I would much rather it break after the NCAA tournament.
March 7, 200719 yr That would never be the public reason given, and most HCs are worried enough about their jobs that they'll cut loose assistants even if they're not the main problem. Most head coaches aren't Tubby Smith.
March 7, 200719 yr Tubby will be back. Next year will be an official hot seat year from Barnhart and CO. 3, 10+ loss seasons in a row won't fly. Assistants should have been gone a long time ago. I'd say they got one more year than they should have.
March 7, 200719 yr If Tubby gets fired, what is his pay-out? Anyone know for sure. The higher the number the less the power that Barnhart has in the situation. JMO. I think its $1 Million for every year remaining on his contract. In reference to the post from Sportz Addict...that sounds like a winner to me...bring in a recruiting specialist and an offensive guru...the two things UK basketball desperately needs the most. I just wonder how much influence and effect an offensive guru will end up having...I'm just a little skeptical of how big of a change it would have. Hopefully, I'm wrong about that, and in any case, it could only help. Right?
March 7, 200719 yr I feel this will be best for Kentucky and the Basketball Program. Dick also said a mid-level administrator would be gone, as well. I hope this doesn't mean Finney. He is one heck of a recruiter.
March 7, 200719 yr See- John Lucas... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that is old school recruiting. Hire the recruits father.
March 7, 200719 yr Can anyone say Allen Houston? Didn't Pitino bring in Magloires AAU coach as Director of Basketball operations?
