To be quite frank, no 13th region coach sticks out above the rest. You say Corbin lost about 75% of their rebounding and point production last year. You say that Corbin was ranked below SL, Bell, Jackson, Pineville and Cumberland. You say Corbin's best win was over Adair County. You say that Corbin has improved.

 

If these are the real reasons you think Pietrowski should be COY then you are voting for the wrong guy...You should vote for Spurlock. Clay lost 100% of their starting lineup. Clay was ranked at the bottom of almost every pre season poll. Clay's best win was over Bell (Who could very well win the 13th this year). Other than a slip at the end of the season, Clay has most definately over achieved. Yep, looks to me like you should vote for Spurlock.:thumb:

As you fit in well with Corbin. I guess I see why Pietrowski is getting all these kudos from the Redhound faithfull...Corbin beat Clay...And that always makes Corbin's season, no matter what else happens. When Corbin beats Clay, they feel like they've over achieved. I must say I agree.:banana:

 

You would have been right if you said this fifteen to twenty years ago.........I assure you that playing or beating Clay Co. is not that big a deal to the Corbin kids today. South Laurel and Bell Co. are the two teams they get up for now.

While I realize he may not be Coach of the Year in the 13th in 2007, I submit Casey Lester of Harlan for Coach of the Year in the 52nd District. The team has only one real scoring threat (John Smith) and only one other player (Robbie Curtis) that has significant experience. The remainder of the team, outside of maybe senior Derrick Sheffield, either did not play significantly or did not have much success on the middle school or JV levels. Despite all this, he has kept the team right around .500 and very competitive nightly, even against the likes of Corbin late in the season.

 

Especially if Harlan gets by Cumberland tonight and reaches the regional, he definitely deserves consideration based on what was achieved with the talent level available.

I think Lester had done a decent job. Before he got there they were a doormat in the 13th region. He has not built a great team, but they have been competitive every year except his first year there, with very limited talent. Give him some more talent and I think they do very well. Next year will be the tell.

Each of the coaches that have been listed in this thread could be worthy of COY depending on what factors you take into consideration and place the most importance on. Do you rate a coach with an established program, that includes experienced players, and has a better record, higher than a coach who starts with a so-so team and builds it up to a region contender? I like to look at which coach has had the most challenges set before him and has rose to the occasion. IMO it would be easier to coach say a team like South, who has experienced, talented, older players who have been contenders for years than for a coach to take a young program and build on it.

I have to say either the coach from Corbin or Pineville.... Both teams didn't really play to expectations at the beginning of the season... Corbin bounced back faster than Pineville but Pineville seems to be a little hotter right now..

None the less, both teams have faught their way back where they were before the season started. The top 4 in the region. Coaching is what clawed these teams to where they are now. Both teams are as hot as fire :fire:!

If you think for one second that beating Clay county isn't a big deal to the Corbin kids today you must have just moved in. The Clay Corbin rivalry is one of the best in the state, and I for one hope it never dies. You better believe Corbin gets up for Clay.

It hasn't been that long. Clay beat South Floyd in the 2001 state tournament.

IMO when anyone beats Clay Co. in basketball, because of their awsome past, it means something. I understand they are not the program they once were but it still means alot.
