February 19, 200719 yr Not if they win Ohio or Florida and keep winning Michigan. I question his ability to hold other "red" states or win in battleground states too.
February 19, 200719 yr I've always had a rule of thumb that whoever wins the South has the best chance to win the White House. The proof is in the pudding. 1964 Johnson, a Southerner, wins the White House. 1968 Nixon is able to fight off Wallace's pull on his southern base to defeat Humphrey. 1972 Nixon carries the South...wins. 1976 Carter, a southerner, carries the South...wins. 1980 Reagan carries the South....wins. 1984 Reagan, etc, etc... 1988 Bush I, etc, 1992 Clinton, a southerner, wins and carries the South. 1996 Clinton again. 2000 Bush II, carries the South, and wins. 2004 Bush II, carries the South, and wins. The only times the democrats have won the White House is when Southerners were their candidates....Johnson, Carter, Clinton....I can't explain Tennessee's Gore. On the other hand, the democrats have had mostly liberal northern candidates as their choices, and have lost. Their boat has sunk with the likes of South Dakota's Humphrey, Minnesota's McGovern, Massachusett's Dukakis, etc... The Dems need a Southern candidate. However, I don't thnk Hillary is their best choice. Most Southerners, imo, don't agree with her political philosophy....same as Al Gore.

February 22, 200719 yr Oh yeah... Practically guarantees a southerner. Which practically guarantees he won't win New York. When he was in the early campiagn of the Senate Race against Hillary Clinton he was getting killed upstate.

February 22, 200719 yr Bloomberg one the mayoral election only after he received Rudi's endorsement...it was going to be completely different.. If Rudi wins the primary and goes up against Barack...it would be the most interesting Presidential Campaign that I will have ever witnessed...and I would be torn where to vote.

It would be a fun race but both of them are "popular" candidates. They are getting a lot more credit because of their popularity than their experience or electability. Both have major flaws and once the mud slinging begins both will begin to lose that popular image.

IMO Rudy is a liberal in conservative clothing. I don't think he stands a chance with the conservatives on social issues. Many use abortion rights as a litmus test. All the strides forward in reversing Roe v. Wade will be given a severe set-back. I for one hope the Republican party comes up with some better choices quick.
