February 18, 200719 yr I was wondering if UK has ever gone deep into the tournament without a player from a Kentucky high school as a contributing player? I think part of the problem at UK is that they are missing some players who are from the state and play with a HUGE amount of pride in the school. Players like: Anthony Epps Rex Cameron Mills Derek Anderson Richie Farmer Deron Feldhaus John Pelphrey Reggie Hanson Dicky Beal Any thoughts? or statistical facts?
February 18, 200719 yr That would make one heck of a KY all star team. The only two I never saw in HS were Anderson and Beal but the others all were stellar when I saw them in Rupp/Freedom Hall.
February 18, 200719 yr I agree completely. This team plays with no emotion. You can't measure the value of certain KY kids playing for UK by their height, quickness, or leaping ability. What they lack in those areas, they make up for with heart and pride.....players like Epps, Mills, and Ravi Moss. I'd like to see UK get Matt Walls from Scott Co. I think he fits this mold.
February 18, 200719 yr I don't have any statistics or history on this right now but you do make an excellent point. I agree, if there is an in state kid that has the ability and talent to play for the Wildcats then imo U.K. should make an effort to sign them. Imo in state kids that grow up dreaming of playing for the Cats will play a little harder and are more dedicated. JMO and I realize that U.K. needs to get the best players possible for the positions that they need. I just love to see an in state kid playing at U.K..

All a part of the last Final 4 and Title Team. :sssh:
February 18, 200719 yr I think this coaching staff has got some of the wrong Kentucky kids and lost some of the kids we need. And I think bad luck plays a part in that. You would think Carrier at 6-6 and scored 25 ppg in highschool, and a good shooter would help UK, but he didnt. Stockton was just too little and not athletic enough to boot. I think it would be a big step in the right direction if UK got Walls to walk on and Miller on scholarship. Id also love to see UK somehow get Mackey or Hopson. You can't have a team full of Kentucky kids, but I do believe it helps to have a some on the team.
February 18, 200719 yr Author You forgot Scott Padgett. All a part of the last Final 4 and Title Team. :sssh: I'm sure I didn't name quite a few... Padgett was a good example - I bet he wasn't a 5-Star recruit but gave 100% for big blue because he had pride in the name on the FRONT of the jersey.

February 19, 200719 yr The impact of Kentucky kids on the UK basketball program goes all the way back to Rupp and through all of the coaches afterward. That is what is so sickening about the Lofton situation. He had to be at LEAST as highly rated as Bradley and instead of showing loyalty to the Kentucky kid, Tubby goes out and brings in a kid at the same position from another state. And now UK fans have to watch a Kentucky kid lighting it up for the Vols and sadly enough it would appear that Tubby has learned nothing from losing Lofton. He is saving schlorships for Lucas and Patterson and losing very good Kentucky kids to other schools in the process, and I am not really sold on Lucas, a 5"10 point guard, when UK already has a 6"6 point guard who looks pretty good with a nice future. And Patterson, well, don't be shocked to see him at Florida. They are losing lots of frontline players, Donovan has been recruiting him hard and Florida's Associate Head Coach, Donnie Jones, is from West Virginia. So, by the time Patterson says no to UK this Spring, UK will have lost out on quality kids again from right here in the Bluegrass state once again. For whatever reason Tubby has not learned anything since losing out on Lofton, and for that UK and us fans will have to suffer and once again say, "Wow, look how good so and so is doing at another SEC school".
February 19, 200719 yr Isn't Bobby Perry from KY? Can he not take UK to the promised land? Bobby is from right down the road from your boys.
