February 20, 200719 yr I was wondering if UK has ever gone deep into the tournament without a player from a Kentucky high school as a contributing player? I think part of the problem at UK is that they are missing some players who are from the state and play with a HUGE amount of pride in the school. Players like: Anthony Epps Rex Cameron Mills Derek Anderson Richie Farmer Deron Feldhaus John Pelphrey Reggie Hanson Dicky Beal Any thoughts? or statistical facts? I thought the samething,but I was bashed for even thinking of such a thing. What I read from some of the other posters they Said there are no good highschool players in Ky anymore.

I'll go ahead and reply to a few of the folks questions from those threads... In the recent years, I think UK should have done everything they could to get Jaron Brown (Bryan Station - Pitt), Justin Doleman (Ryle - Xavier), Chris Lofton (duh), Larry O'Bannon (Male - Louisville) Recent players from KY who I think are better than Bobby Perry, Sheray Thomas and Woo (keep in mind - I think Perry, Thomas and Woo are LOW TO MID MAJOR PLAYERS posing as Kentucky Wildcat talent): Mark Surgalski (Ashland - Wright State/Georgetown College), Ross Neltner (Highlands - LSU/Vandy), Brian Thornton (Louisville Manual - Notre Dame/Vandy), Darnell Dialls (Lafayette - EKU), Brian Silverhorn (Shelby Co. - Georgetown College), Stepphon Pettigrew (E-town - tba) Recent and current players who I think are better than Michael Porter: AJ Slaughter (Shelby Co. - Western KY), Matt Walls (Scott Co. - tba), Bud Mackey (Scott Co. - IU verbal), Darius Miller (Mason Co - tba), Twanny Beckam (Ballard - IUPUI signed), Ty Profitt (South Laurel - Notre Dame signed) I don't think they should have recruited all these guys, but I think a few sprinkled around a Mashburn was a really good way to recruit. It seems now that we get no talent like Mash - and the mid level guys we take are Chuck Hayes cousin... One more point - I blame the assistants as much as Tubby. Those guys don't work half as hard as the people they are up against. I know for a FACT that when UK started recruiting Jared Carter - UK's staff came to watch him play 3 times while Roy Williams and his staff flew in from Chapel Hill 5 times during Jared's senior year. Note to Tubby - Fire Hobbs and Finney and Hansen and hire a go-getter to recruit. If you could make Happy Osborne go by the rules - he would be a good fit. Donnie Tyndall sure got some players to go to LSU while he was there. These two would also have the "Kentucky Pride" that is lacking in the staff just as it is lacking in the players.

Hopefully this one can stay on topic. I'd like to hear some responses to these specific names.

Alot of you all have said the problem with UK basketball is that we dont get the in state boys anymore, and my point is that it wouldn't get us to where people want us to go. Yeah we have recruited some in state kids and they did ABSOLUTELY nothing while here. And yes also there isn't that much talent in are state at the high school level that really is good enough to play at UK. Yeah every now and then there would be a couple of people who will do pretty good, and then for every one good person you bring in you probably also get 3 people like a Carrier, or Stockton who really dont do much at all while here. I admit if we are going to keep bringing in people like Thomas, Woo, Perry, etc. then yeah we definitely might as well get the Ky boys because if we got them then maybe we could maybe have one or two more wins that are losses right now. But it still most likely wouldn't get us to where all UK fans want us to go and that is final fours and National Championships. Recruiting ky kids is not the problem, its not recruiting top notch players that is the problem...
February 20, 200719 yr I would say that if a kid is good enough to play at another SEC school, Indiana or Louisville then I would submit that they are good enough to play at UK.
February 20, 200719 yr The impact of Kentucky kids on the UK basketball program goes all the way back to Rupp and through all of the coaches afterward. That is what is so sickening about the Lofton situation. He had to be at LEAST as highly rated as Bradley and instead of showing loyalty to the Kentucky kid, Tubby goes out and brings in a kid at the same position from another state. And now UK fans have to watch a Kentucky kid lighting it up for the Vols and sadly enough it would appear that Tubby has learned nothing from losing Lofton. He is saving schlorships for Lucas and Patterson and losing very good Kentucky kids to other schools in the process, and I am not really sold on Lucas, a 5"10 point guard, when UK already has a 6"6 point guard who looks pretty good with a nice future. And Patterson, well, don't be shocked to see him at Florida. They are losing lots of frontline players, Donovan has been recruiting him hard and Florida's Associate Head Coach, Donnie Jones, is from West Virginia. So, by the time Patterson says no to UK this Spring, UK will have lost out on quality kids again from right here in the Bluegrass state once again. For whatever reason Tubby has not learned anything since losing out on Lofton, and for that UK and us fans will have to suffer and once again say, "Wow, look how good so and so is doing at another SEC school". Wrong about Bradley and Lofton...Bradley was a 4 star recruit while Lofton was a 2 star or 3 star recruit, depending on which service you look at, so, according to all the experts, Bradley was the better choice..As it turned our, Lofton made improvement in his foot speed and defense and got better than expected...It happens..Get over it..Move on..The sun will still rise tomorrow... As far as Tubby learning his lesson, all I can say is that he probably learned as much from the Carrier and Stockton debacles than he did from the Lofton situation...

February 21, 200719 yr Anyone that had Bradley as a four star recruit was and is out of their mind. And I submit that Lofton's overall performance in high school was above Bradley's as well. As an all state performer in two sports, basketball and football, it was easy to see that Lofton was a hard worker with a tremendous upside. Tubby missed the boat, plain and simple, get over it.
