This same thing happened to Trinity a few years ago. They had to cancel a couple of games at the end of the season.

Ballard didnt have a game scheduled for this week. They have two days out of school and the time will be used to rest the kids and work on some thing the latter part of the week. They had J-Town , North College Hill and Male in less than a weeks time last week. Scheduling some downtime sounds like a good idea to me.

Ballard is at the limit because they went all the way to the finals of the LIT. If they had been beaten in the semifinals, they could have played one game next week.

Male is not overscheduled. They have 20 games on the schedule aside from the 5/3 and the LIT ... the fifth game at the 5/3 puts them at the limit of 21.

 

You can count any two tournaments as one game ... because Male played more in the LIT and 5/3, those are the ones that count as tournaments.

They are right at 23 games or 24 depending how you do the 5/3rd being 5 games. BTW, Male was penalized two years ago for too many games. I dont think they where aloud in the LIT last year.

Male will finish with an official count of 23. KOB will count as one game. 5/3 will count as 2 since they played 5 games. The LIT and the Toyota Classic would result in all games being counted individually. That puts them at 23 by the end of the regular season.

Ummm, yes they did. They were supposed to play Iroquois this week as part of a girl/boy doubleheader. The girls game is still on but the boys is off. Had Ballard lost in LIT semifinals they would have been ok! It's one of those deals where you have to almost take a chance and schedule the extra game. Always easier getting out of a game than adding one after the fact!

On the schedule I received in Novenber it isnt on there. So my point was it wasnt cancelled because of over scheduling. Im sure no one knew then how deep they would go in tournaments.

ElGato beat me to it but only two tournaments may be counted as one game. And that is only if there are no more than four games played in the tournament.

 

Per the KHSAA rule book:

 

4) No member school shall play more than twenty-three

(23) basketball games during the regular season.

A maximum of two (2) tournaments may be included

in any manner other than counting each game played

against the limit of twenty-three (23) games. Any two

tournaments played during the regular season may be

counted as one game per tournament against the limit

of twenty-three (23) provided that neither tournament

necessitates the team playing more than four (4)

games. Any game played over the limit of four in any one

tournament shall be counted against the limit of twentythree

(23) games

Just to inform, those teams that make the Class A state tournament, this is their TWO tournaments. The regional tournament is seen as one tournament. The state is seen as a second tournament.

 

That is one of the reasons why that Class A teams that make a surprising run to the Class A state tournament, ends up cancelling some of their games as they usually had already played in another tournament as they were not planning on making the state tournament.

Teams have had to forfeit their first round district games in the past.

 

Highlands soccer did it a few years back and the coach was suspended, if I remember correctly, some games at the beginning of the next season.
