Congrats CAL. My only small issue is that Hobbs should have been on sideline for the JV defense. Other than that, it's on BG.

For BG, simply at a loss of what to say. Embarrassing.

More like 2 years ago. Both were state champions in their classes.

Ja'Hyde Brown had another 4 TD night, bringing his season total to 19. What nobody seems to be talking about is Jackson Burke throwing 8 more TDs tonight, bringing his seasons total to 37. If CAL can get to Kroger Field & Burke keeps the same pace, he'll break the season pass TD record of 90.

I think that's fair, the take was emotional. However, the difference in the 2010s dominance to the 2020s is not comparable.

The take was poorly worded, I was trying to say that the 2016 BG team versus the 2026 CAL team would've been a fantastic game. It's clear that CAL is much better than they were last year, even with many of the same star players.

All love to the 2010 teams, always dominant, but 2020s schedule is much different as well.

Not really. That decade from 2010-2019 the Purples went against X, Trinity, Chattanooga McCallie, Blackman (TN), Lex Cath, prime Warren Central, prime John Hardin, amongst others.

I think the gripe is that Bowling Green doesn't just lose these games. They get pasted and there's nothing being changed. It truly seems like the culture that was established from those years has been completely lost.

If we're calling a spade a spade, we've had state championship teams this decade lose to Bryan Station and 2A LCA... a lot of the issues (especially defensively) were masked IMO by the most talented quarterback to ever come through Bowling Green HS.

I'm as big of a Bowling Green guy as you'll find, but at some point there has to be a serious evaluation of where the program stands.

The schedule is definitely more difficult in totality. I don't believe the shortcomings of this year's team and last should be applied as a generalized "decline of Bowling Green", at least not yet. Bowling Green has long seemed immune to bad stretches, relatively poorer crops of talents, but that may just be where they're at. Frankly, I don't think football in this entire area is at a high point at the moment. I think South is a measure off of what we're used to, Bowling Green certainly is these past two years, even Greenwood is having a much more difficult year than they've had in recent times.

All that said, the defensive struggles are striking. From what I've been told about this game, Bowling Green didn't stop CAL a single time, and would never have. Last night equaled the most points Bowling Green has ever allowed in a game - the last came in 1969. Bowling Green has allowed 49 points or more 18 times in their history. Three of those have come this season, and when you add last year's regional final, it's four times in their last seven games. Put another way? That matches the total amount of times that happened in the previous 40 YEARS. Even when Bowling Green's offense has been top notch, it has been their defense that carries them to titles, that wins the games. They pin you deep, they win field position, they choke you out. And suddenly these two years, their defense has been a problem.
