I do not want to do anything they are doing in California.

Then you should remain in your own little world just as the KHSAA does.

We need to be constructive and those of you that want to take cute little shots at each other need to take it to PMs.

The khsaa is scared of the private schools- or the split would have happened like it was voted on and passed!! Other states have seperate championships for the privates because they are a totally different animal than a public school

I have heard in the last couple of weeks that the Board of Education is considering "splitting the baby" on the new Proposal 2 and some other measures that have come before it for its April meeting. Anyone else hearing this???

After what they did to Hunter Luttrell at Harlan, I have absolutely nothing for them. This kid's father played at Harlan, is a Harlan resident, has served numerous tours of duty in very hostile territory to protect this country, and is currently in Iraq in a place the board members of this organization cannot even imagine protecting the very freedom (and power) they enjoy...and how do they thank him????????By ruling his son a HS Jr. inelegible becasue of a technicality I will not get into our of respect for the family.

Did I mention his brother is in Iraq also?

TERRIBLE!:fight:

Well, if you're going to throw grenades at the KHSAA for an eligibility ruling that you're obviously close to, you should disclose the circumstances to further your case.

It was pretty clear from what I heard.

You can't have two residences, according to KHSAA rules, and his was already established in Oldham County.

From the U.S. Supreme Court:

"An individual may have many residences, but only one domicile."

Honestly, with the record of the KSHAA I believe they should be the group disclosing answers.

HDE, I agree with you to a point, howver this was a special case and you are as familiar with it as anyone. No advantage by team or individual was to be gained from a favorable ruling. This kid lost a year for no good reason other than one parent lived in one town and the other lived in Harlan. TERRIBLE!

The KHSAA sits on their throne an serves out injustices like this, then when it comes time to make a BIG decision....like stripping Highlands of their title in 2004 like they should have done....they do nothing.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

You mean the title that they won WITHOUT Mike Mitchell playing? There was not a team in 3A that year, including your Dragons, that was on the same level with the Birds. The only team with a legit gripe that season was Bell County as MM had a big hand in that win. But if Mike was not in the lineup for that game, someone else would have stepped up, just like in the title game. Highlands was far from a one man team. Mike was one of many great players that year. The team deserved the championship they won and they wear the rings proudly. And, by the way, how is it an injustice in the case you cite but not an injustice for the KHSAA to keep Mitchell from playing in the championship game when his family legitimately moved to Ft. Thomas? Does it take a broken home to make a move legit?

You're the one pointing an accusatory finger ... it's up to you to make a case.

Are you really trying to say that the move wasn't for athletics. Yes, it takes very SPECIAL circumstances for the Khsaa to find an athlete eligable when he transfers between his JR and SR years. He had went to Cov Cath. There was no place he could have lived in NKY and still not attended Cov. His type of case is exactly the reason that these rules are in order, so kids and parents can't shop themselves around from school to school. Point being, it doesn't matter whether they would have won it with him or not. With every game that he played in being forefitted, their very opportunity to have a state championship should have been taken away. That is where the KHSAA made their mistake in this instance. They broke the rules, therefore, their punishment should have fit the crime.

Long after the season was over and the whole issue was layed to rest by the courts, the rule was in Mitchells favor. To bad the young man didn't get to play in the biggest game of his high school career. However, fortunately for Mr. Mitchell, he is experiencing a terrific college academic and atheletic career. It's been 3 years and I wonder if the Mitchell topic will ever go away. It is what it is folks.

Yes it is. It is the local courts taking the teeth out of our state's athletic institution. We have rules in place so parents and athletes are not allowed to shop themselves around during their high school career. We know what it is. It is a "I am not getting my way, so I will go somewhere else mantality" that has rules preventing it from happening. Of course, there are those that follow rules, and those that don't. If your reasoning is that the courts found in his favor, why have the KHSAA at all. Then it really does become a useless organization.

Bonafide change of address is following the rules. Personnally if I had a child that was unhappy at a school for whatever reason, I would definately be "shopping around". Last I heard, we live in a free country.
