Excellent job is stretching it. And it has always been the naysayers who keep the gavel in check.
We all can think of instances, situations and enforcement of ByLaws, that at the time we felt might be inconsistent with previous decisions, perhaps there is some difference and perhaps, we truly don't know all the facts surrounding a ruling.

I'm not referencing, nor will I, any specific case. The KHSAA deals with questions, complaints, allegations, preparation for season, tournaments, compliance, etc....Daily.

I'm in communication often and they are extremely helpful. Overall to me, they do an excellent job, given the number of daily tasks required. One doesn't always have to agree with all decisions, to give praise where praise is needed.

I give the KHSAA.....:thumb: :thumb:

Which cases?

For example:

Covington Catholic, Highlands, Lex. Cath., Boyle - 3A

Beechwood, Danville 1A

I'd tell you some big schools, but the big ones are private. But these are just a couple of examples of some schools who would be looked at very closely (maybe even with a bias opinion) if they received a transfer from another school, IMO.

The opinions of a few illustrious coaches seem to be very influential...then again maybe they have earned the right to be heard and be influential. The opinions of less prestigious schools seem like they tend to fall on deaf ears. Basketball is still king!

Be more specific. If you're claiming the KHSAA takes a biased view into transfers at certain schools, give us some specific examples.

I would rather not open up that can of worms again... It has been done over and over again in previous posts about player eligibility, if you don't know of any examples then this probably doesn't seem like a problem to you. If you remember back to the Mike Mitchel case, we opened up a thread which ended up being about 9 pages long where more than enough examples were given.

I know of plenty of examples. You're the one making the charge, so you should pony up some evidence.

Let me remind everyone, of Rule #4, when discussing in this thread:

4. No school-specific (or general) recruiting comments or allegations of KHSAA rules violations by any school, coach, player or booster are allowed. No talking about where any player lives, has lived, or where they are from in a recruiting context. This is not the place to report KHSAA violations. Feel free to contact www.khsaa.org to report such violations, but do not discuss violations here.

Here are some things I don't like:

A kid transfers in to a school due to a divorce or some similar situation, and the KHSAA is EXTREMELY inconsistent in who they grant a Rule #6 waiver to and who they don't. Families just aren't the same anymore; the KHSAA changed the "guardianship" rules a couple of years ago and now almost presumes any guardianship is improper. A total and complete lack of understanding of modern family situations.

Bridgid Devries says in the paper the other day that they can't investigate recruiting because people don't come forward with times, dates, names, and places. That's what an INVESTIGATION is for. Heck, you can subpeona people and make them give answers. Then the private schools propose an option that would fund 3 or 4 investigators. KHSAA doesn't even consider it because "Oh well, the public schools won't agree to it." Sheesh. No wonder we have LexCath investigated for 31 infractions and not one of them can be proven. And don't tell me how great LexCath is at cover-ups, I don't buy it.

The Commissioner's "reports" to the BOE are whining "tell us what to do" sessions. Is this even an educational issue? Does the Board need to be involved? Unfortunately, they are being involved because the KHSAA has no leadership.

I'm sure the KHSAA wouldn't mind having subpoena power, but they can't grant it to themselves.

Lexington Catholic admitted to some infractions, didn't they?

Actually, westsider, they DO have that power, but will not allow/use it, which is all the more maddening.

The KHSAA is a creature of statute. KRS 156.070(2) authorizes the Kentucky Board of Education to utilize an "agent" to manage the affairs of interscholastic athletics. It specifically states in that law that "any administrative hearing conducted by the designated agency shall be conducted in accordance with KRS Chapter 13B."

KHSAA's enabling statute, 702 KAR 7:065, designates the KHSAA as the agent and requires certain mandated requirements, including compliance with the Open Meetings Law, and grants authority for the KHSAA Constitution and Bylaws.

Under KRS 13B, KRS 13B.080(3) specifically grants an agency's Hearing Officers the right to issue subpoenas that can be enforced in Circuit Court with contempt, and also to issue "discovery orders." KRS 13B.170 also empowers the agency in subsection one (1) the authority to "promulgate administrative regulations," and in subsection (2) to even promulgate "supplemental regulations" in addition to 13B for its own "hearing procedures."

The bottom line is that if the KHSAA were really interested in patrolling recruiting, upon receipt of a Complaint they would have paid investigators gathering facts and initiating serious investigations, and would be empowering their officers to issue subpoenas, compel testimony, and enforce discovery orders for documents. $$$ is not the reason they don't do this (they spend literally tens of thousands of dollars with Greenebaum Doll & McDonald in Lexington every year on legal fees). One can only speculate why then they do not.

They have no backbone until they follow through on what was voted on by the AD's.

I think the KHSAA has the ability to be a good organization. I think they are trying to make good decisions for the most part. However, what are they thinking by rearranging the classes in football? If you are going to rearrange the classes, at least make them equal. Put all your private schools into two classes, and leave your public schools in their own classes. Also, basketball and baseball...how can you expect schools with 500 students to play with bigger schools that have 14 and 1500. That is probably the worst idea anyone has ever had.....

I think the KHSAA should continue with the idea of segregation in all sports as it has with football. Segregation has worked so well in all aspects of our society why not extend the idea to our kids.

I think the KHSAA should continue with the idea of more champions in all sports. Everyone can be a champion because nothing is gained or learned from losing.

If the KHSAA continues with these ideas their poll numbers will continue to rise.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think KY is now the ONLY state in the USA that still has a "true" state champion by playing only one championship. Up until a few(3/4 yrs) I think IN and WV still played one state championship and finally changed into classes.

Is it fair, no, but IMO it is very exciting to have a SWEET SIXTEEN! This could be something higher than the KHSAA as far as not changing the structure, real political stuff!

What types of decisions have been radically bad in football, in your opinion?

Last year Mercer playing in 2a.
