5A Bowling Green (1-3) at 5A Barren County (3-1)

This will be the 24rd meeting between these two district mates.  Bowling Green leads the series 21 to 2.  They started playing each other on August 22nd, 1980 (48-22 BG) and the Trojans beat BG in back-to-back years in 1984 (28-21) in Bowling Green and in 1985 (22-0) in Barren County.  But since that time, it's been pretty much all BG except for two games in 1982 and 1986 (14-7 BG in 1982 and 19-15 BG in 1986).

The Trojans are led by Head Coach John Myers, now in his 3rd season off Trojan Trail, and he has done a super job of taking positive steps forward in his 3 seasons at Barren County.  They fell short of 2nd place in the district last year falling at home to a very good Greenwood team 21-17.  So, is this the year the Trojans can earn that home playoff game?  You tell me...

For Bowling Green, the current status is pretty rough.  Three straight losses in different fashion.  Didn't show up at St X, an offensive shootout loss vs Scott County and physically worn down vs South.  Can the Purples pull themselves up here in a game that matters in their first district game?  We shall see.

Barren County Trojans Information - (TP94 Ranking - 49.47)

Coach John Myers Trojans look forward to hosting a Bowling Green team on the back of two straight Trojan wins (both home wins vs Metcalfe County 43-6 and Monroe County 35-7).  Morale is high after also giving rival Glasgow all they wanted in a Week 2 loss 49-42.

The Trojans are led at QB by SR Briggs Harris who is playing well.  He had 161 yards and 3 TDs vs Metcalfe.  SR RB Corbin Wells had 3 carries for 50 yards and a TD in the Metcalfe win and SR Jackson Stephano had 3 catches for 60 yards and 2 TDs vs Metcalfe County.

Harris and Wells are also strong components to the Trojans defense, a unit that has only given up 19 points this season outside of the Glasgow game.

Bowling Green Purples Information - (TP94 Ranking: 68.61)

The Purples will try to pick up the pieces remaining in disarray after a second straight season of getting completely beaten against rival South Warren last night.  The offense started well and SO QB Anthony Davis played pretty well and tried his best, but it wasn't nearly enough.  It remains the Purples defense that is currently at levels not seen before.  Hoping for a revamped defensive system on Friday Night in Glasgow.

Game Preview

This is the first district game for each team.  Barren County is coming in with good confidence and should be very upbeat about this game.  BG is coming in without good confidence and has to regain their focus again in order to be competitive in this game.  Plain and simple.

For Barren County, I personally think this is their best chance to beat BG since the 1980s.  Play your game and don't deviate from it and you can have a real shot in this game.  Plain and simple.

For Bowling Green, the schedule finally lightens some for a team not near the level to utilize it positively. Guaranteed there is still a lot of pressure for this game. This is a district road game and it matters. This week of practice for BG is really important for them to regroup again and they will desperately need to come with some energy, as I expect a good Barren County crowd and a very strong effort from the Trojans here. Not going to be easy for BG here as some might think. Confidence matters in high school football. When you are stripped of it; it can take time to get it back! We shall see.

  • Barren beat them twice, in 1984 and 1985.

  • Barren does exactly what they need to do to beat a team like BG. Play clean, control the clock, take advantage of a BG mistake and win with a 2 point conversion. 22-21, Trojans!

  • I like the Trojans to win in a game with very few possessions.

I'm going with BG simply because Barren doesn't beat BG. Same way with my Wildcats yesterday everyone was saying they had a chance I didn't believe it because Kentucky doesn't beat Alabama. But, I will say this Barren team is very gifted offensively, they can flat out score the football which seems to be an issue for BG as they don't play defense. In the end for the reason I stated above I believe BG wins in a shootout 42-35.

Yeah and lost 21 times.

Barren will finally be almost full strength against the purples. Earlier in the year against the Scottie's barren lacked two key players who didn't get to end up playing. Weston Shelton is a bigger great athlete that will be in the secondary and the big 260 pound Sean Broady who wreaked havoc on the Falcons is back on the D-line. I think when mid-year stats come out the Trojans will be one of the top 10 rushing teams in the state. Will they still be able to impose there will on the purples? Will Shelton in the secondary limit some of the pass plays? I think so.... The Trojans give BG all they want Friday night in a slug fest.

I think Barren can win. Will they? Your guess is as good as mine.

I don't think either team will slow one another down much. Going to come down to turnovers and how many times these teams can get off the field. I do know that Coach Myers probably has the Scott County/BG tape and likely started salivating. Barren has nobody like Timmy Emongo, but if BGHS doesn't tackle well (again) or adjust to tendencies (again) or simply get lined up correctly (again)... It could very well be a stressful night. I will continue to support this group and hope for the best on Friday for the Purps, but this is as gettable as the district will ever be for the Trojans IMO.

If I'm not mistaken and I could be but I don't think so, if Barren were to win this game they would be the favorites in the district and to my knowledge they only won one district championship back in 1988.

Bowling Green 42-21.

Guys, come on. Let's be real. Yes, Barren County is a very solid football team. I think they are the second best team in this district, but they are not close to being on Bowling Green's level. Barren will absolutely not be able to stop BG's offense and the BG defensive line will dominate the Trojans up front. I think BC will be able to put together a scoring drive or two, but ultimately the Purples figure it outI love the optimism and would honestly love to see the Trojans pull the upset, but it ain't happening. BG wins this one big.

BG 49

BC 16

Hmmmmm.... I think I disagree on this one. Barrens O-line is legit. They've decimated every line so far. Even Glasgow who has a good line gave up 275 yards rushing. . There O-line is there strength on offensive. Does barren win. I'm not so sure but to say that line will be dominated is a far stretch. The true question is can there D- slow down BG. Barren up front.. 66 is 6'4 308 and receiving offers. The center is 6,3 285 and a load. RT is 5'11 258.... Left tackle is a big dude too. I just don't see that happening. Being Dominated.....

I agree, Barren may very well lose but BG will not manhandle them up front. If this game is a big BG win it will be because Davis threw it all over the field.

One downfall of a Coach Meyers team is that they are not in great shape. Fatigue will be a factor. The BG defensive line will wear the BC offensive line down. BG by A LOT!
