Open Job: Mayfield

Are you suggesting Coach Morris is going to take back over?

Everything is pointing to Coach Morris coming back for a interim year and then the job being opened up after the season.  That gives a new coach a full offseason to implement what changes they want to make and to build a coaching staff.

Steve Lovelace? Mayfield legend, once won AP Coach of the year, took Christian County to 2 state championship games and has been vital part of Paducah success.

He interviewed but it was not offered to him. They gave it to Coach Dew outright.

If true, the "Mayfield football fan" in me is jumping for joy.

Have not heard much from Cardinal nation.  Anyone??

I would think if Coach Morris comes back, it would be sooner rather than later.  A couple other names to consider with Mayfield blood. Jay Burgett, Steve Lovelace, Chris Champion.

Again, just throwing names out there.

Will Cliff Dew remain in Mayfield or will he look to get hired as a assistant coach somewhere, a little late for schools to be hiring head football coaches?

I don’t see Coach Dew staying considering the situation.  He is a really good coach.  I’m sure he will not have issues finding a spot, if that is what he wants to do.

Is this still an option?

I think they put their best foot forward with trying to get him to come back and he told them no.  That is why the job was officially posted yesterday and its technically been open for weeks.

Then the next question is does Mayfield hire in house or do they hire outside?

Do the Cards have anyone in house that is qualified?  That everyone would be excited about?

I personally think Love would be great if he wants the job,I have heard a few good names are interested, but decline to name names due to the fact that some names may possibly be head coaches of other programs.

Any new information on the coaching search?

I heard it was a falling out over baseball and some heated words between Dew and the principal.

I heard something similar, but seems like a stand alone incident like that wouldn't be enough to let him go.  Gotta be more to this than just one interaction, but really have no other insight.

As far as coaching search goes, have heard Coach Morris mulling a return.  Also heard the names Steven Hatchell and Steve Lovelace mentioned.  Not sure how much interest either coach really has in the head role.  Lovelace has head coaching experience and played at Mayfield.  Hatchell has spent most of his coaching career there, so either fits.  Going to be interesting to see how it shakes out.  Regardless of who they choose, I think they go with someone who is ok with letting Coach Joe whisper in their ear, because, ya know, he is the great and powerful Oz.
