Cooper is not only looking for a coach, they are looking for a venue to host their basketball banquet:

? ?Any ideas as to where parents would be able to host a basketball banquet for Cooper High School girls basketball program? Parents would provide the food. We would just need enough space for both players & their families. Nothing fancy…..just a place to recognize the girls for their hard work this season and more importantly to give an appropriate send off to our 2 senior girls. ? ?  Thanks

Aren't these events normally held in the school cafeteria, gym lobby or a classroom at the school?

I am not the expert here but I would sure think so.  Whatever is going on here, it is really weird.

I think some of that depends on how much money has been fundraised and who is leading the program. I know a few programs (in football and boys basketball) that have their end of the year banquet at Receptions in Erlanger. But I also know of a few programs that have them at their school cafeteria and auditorium. So it just depends on where you are. A school like Cooper, with some parents that are doing well financially, probably have theirs at an off campus site if possible.

Very weird is the word. Would think a school with the resources of Cooper would be able to rent out an area of a nice restaurant, etc. The schools that have it in a cafeteria or a particular classroom in that school are the schools on a much smaller scale.

If the coach has resigned and is not working in the school system as an employee it may take a little while to get everything together as far as letters, awards, etc. If the season ended as many have implied a banquet, get together, or whatever may be a little tense don't you think?

I was informed from a Cooper parent the AD told them no coach, no banquet.

While that is unfortunate, it makes sense. The coaching staff determines who wins those end of the year team awards. I believe that the program, not the athletic department, pays for their own banquets so it makes sense why there would not be one since the coach resigned. It stinks for those young ladies, especially the seniors, but I totally understand the move by the AD.

Now, these parents are well within their rights to have a non-school affiliated banquet where they get together and celebrate the season.

I totally understand this move by the Cooper admin. This is also not a situation where the coach had been there for a long time and was retiring. I would say most of the adults in charge at Cooper are ready to move on from this season, hire a new coach, and move forward.

So odd, they won 20+ games and went to the regional tournament. I guess they want to put that good season behind them and move on. I hope the next coach doesn't win 20+ games and go to NKU, apparently that is a recipe for disaster.

Outsider looking in....That is not a true AD. If the AD really cared about the Cooper program he would hold the banquet himself while they search for a coach. Not fair to the seniors who have put in the work because a coach quit on them. Athletic Director should step up plain and simple.

There is so much more to running a successful high school program than just the wins and losses. It doesn't matter if a team goes undefeated and wins a state championship if you destroy the program to do it. Yes, they had 20 wins, but they also only had 4 players left in the locker room after their last game. That is a direct reflection of the leadership of the program.

Or maybe the disrespect of the players.  I just don't know.

That's just hard to believe.
