February 10, 200719 yr How highly recruited was Mike out of high school, regardless, we all know the story and that he didn't blossom til late, more than once. If I was a gambling man..... He held the single game scoring record in the McDonald's All-American game for 15+ years. If he was playing in that game, and especially if he was scoring that many points in it, I believe that it is safe to say that he was highly recruited. Much has been made about him not making varsity as a Sophomore. He still played JV that year.

Michael Jordan's interest in Kentucky for his son could be because I could not imagine a better role model or father figure for a son than Orlando "Tubby" Smith. I know Michael has always been close with Roy Williams so I can't see him going to Kentucky before UNC. I have to disagree, I don't think going to UNC would be a good idea at all, talking about living in your father's shadow, if anything he needs to go elsewhere and find his own identity. The kid didn't get his daddy's height but he shore has his legs, not many teams throw oops to 6'1'' 'ers.
February 10, 200719 yr I believe that I read in MJs bio that no male in his family was over 5'9" that he could remember. Maybe the boys have inherited the genes. The oldest seems to have topped out. The younger one looks like he may grow a couple of more inches, but that'll put him at around 6'4. Not bad size w/ his athletic ability. He hustles too. He just needs a better jump shot.
February 10, 200719 yr I think he will be in his dads shadow werever he goes and that really isn't fair to him but if he wants to trade lifes then I will and quit work lol. But I guess it could bring a little publicity to whatever school he is at media wise, but I dont know about recruiting wise. A kid who wants to play at school because his son plays there and isn't even that good I dont know about that. A final four would help recruiting much more lol.

February 10, 200719 yr I think if the little Jordan goes anywhere (talking about big programs) to be a walk-on, it would be UNC. MJ is still apart of the UNC program, he attends games there, he still plays in the summer pick-up games(not as often as he use too), he plays in the charity golf tournament there, he evens makes an occaisional appearence when they have a big recruit coming in. UNC basketball is like a family, While Roy Williams was playing at Kansas, his kids attended UNC and his son was a walk-on the Tarheel squad. Not to mention that both of his sons have stated they are UNC fans. I think MJ will have his son attend a smaller school so he will get playing time, that he would not get at a big program.
February 11, 200719 yr Author Everybody talking about how UK can use this to cash in on the name kind of magnifies my first thought when I read this. And that is that with UK's fanbase being so unreasonable and over the top, it would likely not be in the KID's best interest to come to Lexington. He will either be a token to be used and patronized or he will be judged way too harshly for what the blue blockers may see as a lack of ability to live up to his last name. I'd rather see him go somewhere more representative of his skill level because I think it will be in his best interest all the way around. You guys can call this logical if you want, but there are reasons for entertaining a school like UK. Young Jordan's list of those offering schollies are low level D1's and directional schools. While it may be in his best interest to attend one of these schools, that is not necessarily what the kid wants to do. As I understand it, he wants to be at a bigger university with a tradition of winning. Hard to find that in a mid-major. You would expect UNC to be the place he might walk on, but it might not be in his best interests as someone said before about talking about walking in daddy's shadow. That would be an almost impossible situation. Maybe Jeffrey is a lockdown on D, and that could make UK seem a good place for him, as that could get him on the floor. We dont know a lot about this kid, but from all I'm gathering he wants to go bigger than he is being offered, which would mean walking on somewhere. Why UK? Why not?

It comes down to the name. Sure, it might seem I would want to use this kid as a pawn, and maybe I do on some level. But the truth of the matter is, as I said earlier, is that UNC has a leg up on recruiting because of the Jordan-mystique. If UK were to cash in on some of this, I say why not?

Who is to say we couldnt bring both Jordan and Walls in as walk-ons? There is no limit.
February 14, 200719 yr The younger Jordan is a much highly touted prospect. Maybe that could be a part of it too. FWIW, Patrick Ewing Jr. transferred to Georgetown to follow in his father's footsteps.
