Last name is McPeek, and first name is Garry with two r's....I figure it's gotta be the same guy.

It is! Had to forfeit 19 games over a two year period at Fairview as the principal/ ad and assistant coach.

He was at Paris for a minute last year, then he wasn’t, then he was.

Sounds like his team could be awesome running Scott County’s offense.

Super will not allow that to happen!!

Garry McPeek played offensive tackle at Russell High School for head coach Ivan McGlone before going to Morehead State University where he played offensive guard for coach Bill Baldridge.

He started coaching high school football as an assistant at East Carter in of 1989, and headed down to coach in Georgia at Wayne County High School the following season. McPeek returned to coaching in Kentucky as a member of Bob Sphire's staff at Lexington Catholic for the Knights' inaugural season of football in 1991, and then accepted the head coaching job at East Carter the following season, coaching the Raiders from 1992-1994. He took over the Hazard program in 1995, and the following season he accepted the job as head coach at Greenup County where he spent the 1996 & 1997 seasons. In August of 1998 he announced that he was stepping down as Greenup's head coach in order to take over as athletic director at his alma mater, Russell.

It wasn't long before he was back in the coaching game, taking over as head coach for Lawrence County in 2001 after being fired as Russell's athletic director. With the National Indoor Football League competing in the spring, Garry also was the defensive coordinator for the River City LocoMotives in Huntington, WV for their sole season of existence in the NIFL in 2001.

In 2003 McPeek teamed up again with Bob Sphire, coaching on the the Lexington Horsemen staff in the National Indoor Football League. McPeek was able to remain in his position as Lawrence County's head coach while also working as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Horsemen. Shortly after the conclusion of the Horsemen's spring season in 2004, he moved into an assistant coaching job on the staff of head coach Dane Damron at Boyd County High School. Then after his 3rd season with the Horsemen, McPeek left to become inaugural head coach of the Huntington Heroes when the team was created for the American Indoor Football Association in 2006.

McPeek brought in his nephew and former Russell High School/Marshall University football player Nate McPeek to play for the Heroes, and both would depart following the 2007 season for Fairview High School, where Garry had become a member of the football coaching staff. Garry took over as principal/athletic director for Fairview in 2007 and Nate took over as head football coach. Garry also re-joined the Lexington Horseman staff for their spring 2008 season, and remained on their coaching staff until the team folded just prior to the kickoff of the 2010 Arena Football League season. The McPeek duo was at Fairview High School for 7 seasons until a complaint from a former Fairview football coach led to a KHSAA investigation and resulting sanctions from the KHSAA. The sanctions resulted in a major house-cleaning at Fairview, which included the forced-resignation of the district's superintendent and the firing of both McPeeks.

The McPeeks headed south for Georgia, with Garry becoming offensive coordinator at Fanning County High School. Garry returned again to Kentucky in 2015 and was the O-line coach at Lafayette High School in 2015 & 2016, and then he was named athletic director at Frederick Douglass High School in early 2017 prior to the school's first year of operation, working under principal Lester Diaz and asst. principal Mike Harmon, who were both former Lexington Horsemen football players. Diaz, Harmon and McPeek brought in former Horseman player Brian Landis as the Broncos first head football coach as well as McPeek's nephew Nate, who took over the football program at Douglass following Landis' departure after the conclusion of the 2019 football season.

Garry departed Frederick Douglass in 2020, first landing as an assistant at Georgetown College during the offseason before turning Georgia-bound for a 3rd time, this time as getting a job as offensive line coach at Valdosta High School for the 2020 football season. He returned to Kentucky yet again in early 2021 when he became assistant director of football operations at Eastern Kentucky University. He was promoted to director of football operations at EKU following the conclusion of the 2021 season, and was promoted during that summer to football chief of staff at Eastern. Garry also served as interim head coach at EKU for the first two games of the Colonels' 2022 season while head coach Walt Wells was recuperating from a heart attack.

Garry joined the assistant coaching staff at Frederick Douglass High School in 2023, and then in February 2025 he moved onto the assistant coaching staff at Paris to once again work under head coach Dane Damron. I don't believe he ended up coaching the for the Greyhounds this past season because he was hired at Eminence High School prior to the start of the 2025-26 school year as the school district's director of pupil personnel and their homeless coordinator. He was not a member of the coaching staff under Barrett Sanderson this past season, so I don't think he ended up coaching anywhere this past season.

High School Head Coaching Career:

1992 - East Carter (2-8)
1993 - East Carter (8-4)
1994 - East Carter (8-3)
1995 - Hazard (9-3)
1996 - Greenup County (6-5)
1997 - Greenup County (6-5)
2001 - Lawrence County (11-1)
2002 - Lawrence County (7-3)
2003 - Lawrence County (7-4)

That is a TON of moving around, and this is one tough place to win. I hope he has the patience to stick around on this one.

Right?? And if you look at the one and only place he's ever hung his hat for more than 3 straight seasons, he was fired after the school was sanctioned by the KHSAA for goings-on in the football program that he was the architect of.
