9th Region: Week 1

IMO, a coach should never let a player, no matter how talented, just show up around tournament time and play. Sets a horrible precedent. I hope Tayden plays, and from what I have heard, it sounds like he has now chosen to play. But if he is not all in now, I won't put words in KL's mouth, but I highly doubt he will let Tayden join the team whenever he feels like it.

Didn't that already happen? The season already started, rosters were set, a game was played, and then he changed his mind and decided to play.

In the end, these are still kids who want to play a game with their friends, so I am glad he is getting the chance to play if that's what he wants.

We are talking about 16 yr old kids.  He probably had thoughts on doing one thing and now doing another….  Anybody with current kids around that age, it’s a constant battle trying to parent with these

  • I am as big a fan of Tayden as the next guy, especially his character and who he has grown into as a young man, but I think you may be vastly overestimating his potential impact on the basketball cour

Comedy.

Comedy is one kid coming in well after the season started and suggesting He will make an impact in beating the #2 ranked team in state and that the Colonels would be nervous.  They just smoked the #20 ranked team in the state, on the road, this past weekend and Highlands is unranked.  Highlands is very well coached, with proven players who can straight ball, but all of that and one kid is not going to make a difference this year.

And I am very much in agreement that no one around here is good enough to dictate to a team when they will show up and play.  I have no doubt of His talent and character, but no one is that good and deserves that kind of special treatment.  How entitled are we trying to make this generation?!  Weak Sauce.  Football is over, you lace’em up and move to Hoops or you do not….it’s pretty simple until we say a kid is good enough to dictate terms and schedules.  Seems to me to be all about theater…..just show up and play or don’t.  It’s that simple until adults choose to entitle kids.  And I am not just saying it about this kid…..this applies 1,000% across the board, period.

Ummmmmmmmm. Yeah. I have said all along Cov Cath is by far and away the 9th Region Champ this year as soon as Cooper won it last year. Never once did I say Tayden would be single handedly changing that. But it is comedy to think it is overrated what he could do for Highlands basketball team.

Not sure who to post quote here, and I don't recall the exact circumstances . . .

Michael Mayer played basketball the last 10 games of his junior year before opting out his last season, averaging 10.7 points and 7.1 rebounds. I don't know if Cov Cath beats Beechwood for a trip to Rupp without him.

Tayden put up similar numbers (11.6/6.3) last year for his entire soph season. I'm not negating him as an impact player. At all. He's obviously a difference maker. Don't think it would effect team chemistry whenever this particular player and coach decide it's the right time to suit up.

He's on the roster as of last night. Spicy Gatorade for a few key rivalries this season.

Huge difference in joining the team a week into the season and waiting until tournament time. Again, I am glad he is playing and hope he has an incredible year and stays healthy doing it. My only issue was saying that he should be able to wait weeks and weeks into the season and join the team for districts.

I still think its a few weeks before he is on the court one way or another. And when he is getting prime minutes I will laugh at his double doubles like they're not impactful. Someone's parents feelings will be hurt that their son's minutes aren't what they think they should be but what's new.

Due to recent injuries, I could see his timeline fast-tracked, and I honestly hope it is. He is fun to watch and a great player.

Why would he need to wait longer than Harris? Both played football.

Coach Listerman in his wisdom might have said to all the football players….take a few weeks, get refreshed and you decide by (fill in the date) if you are ready for some roundball.  Have seen this many times where football and basketball programs successfully excel.

Sense he wanted to focus in on football, I'd give him atleast 12 weeks from his last football game. That times up about perfectly with district tournaments. He would be in tip top shape I guarantee that and he is a gamer, he would still be an instant impact. He could give basketball a good 3-4 weeks of his time and be right back to focusing on football. This is all just wishful thinking on my part.

I would normally agree but I think he has enough respect amongst his peers and coaches that they know what type of person he is and it is not an ordinary situation. There could/should be a plan in place. Just because he has been seen leaving a gym doesn’t mean he will be on the hardwood this week, or the next, or the week after that but it could be part of a process. They would be crazy to tell a young man like him sorry but no thanks.

Can't agree with this at all. In regards to if he doesn't practice or play with the team all year, but then come tournament time is allowed to join and plays over guys who have been practicing all year.

Normally I never agree with parents and their complaints with playing time stuff. However, if I was a parent of a player that all of a sudden didn't play as much, because a player come tournament time decided to join the team, I would be livid. As that would not be fair at all, to the player or players whose time he takes, after they were the ones practicing and playing all year.

Now if he is practicing with the team currently, and is with them all year practicing everyday then that is different story.

I'm leaning more towards the " different story ".

I would concur.

We are talking about 16 yr old kids.  He probably had thoughts on doing one thing and now doing another….  Anybody with current kids around that age, it’s a constant battle trying to parent with these mental merry go round cycles.

He’s had discussions with the coach and his teammates.  I have never heard one issue coming out of anybody with how this young man is.

Let’s play!  I love that he will be suiting up!

The clouds will be smiling when he finally gets in on the action.
