While compiling the numbers above, I noticed the discrepancy in two-way players. Edge is the only significant two-way starter for OCath among the offensive skill positions/quarterback. Carothers and his other top targets go one way. LCA has several pulling double duty, including Whelan, who serves as the catalyst for everything they do offensively.

If this turns into the track meet most expect, look for the Aces to be a little fresher.

I'm taking OCath to finally claim that elusive state title.

Woodward and Maddox have been playing both ways. I know Maddox dad well and he's been going both way last couple weeks. Woodward played both ways.

Does LCA have kids going both ways on the Line? Catholic has been using French ALOT on the DL lately.

Thanks for the correction.

Woodward and Maddox show up in the defensive numbers, but I got the impression they were part time, at most.

Generally speaking, I think it's good to have your best going both ways at the small school level, but it's a huge plus for OCath to have Carothers only focusing on taking snaps.

This game has been the toughest one for me to pick.  I am going to roll with LCA in a close one.  I think the Eagles will do a better job of defending OC than Beechwood did.

OC QB was just surgical against BW.  Candidly, did not think that was possible.  Can’t project LCA having better secondary so it has to happen in the trenches if they are to harness that aerial assault..

This 2A final features two explosive offenses, but the semifinal tape matters. Owensboro Catholic escaped 41–40 against Beechwood, and you can’t help but feel that if Beechwood had brought more pressure instead of rushing three all night, that game may have ended differently. Catholic’s offense is dangerous when the quarterback has time, and LCA won’t want to repeat that mistake.

LCA looks like the more well-rounded team overall. If they can contain Miles Edge and consistently pressure the O-Cath QB, they have a real shot to control this matchup. Still, with both teams capable of scoring in bunches, this one could go either way. This might be the best matchup out of all classes, IMO.

Carothers had a plethora amount of time in the pocket. OCath's o-line has played extremely well this year. How is LCA's DLine?

Woodward and Maddox show up in the defensive stats, but it feels like they’re only being used part-time in the secondary. And honestly, when OCath’s defense starts to struggle, you can usually see both of them back there. That tells me the staff knows they need their best athletes on the field when things tighten up.

I get the argument about saving guys for offense, but at the small-school level, your best players have to be on the field in the biggest moments. If I’m OC, I’m making sure the defense is loaded with the top personnel every snap—not just in crisis mode. With how explosive LCA's offense is, you can’t afford to roll the dice on coverage.

The 2A game is up next!

Beechwood rarely rushed three in that game. They played a three man front, but they almost always brought a fourth. They attempted blitzes many times and had no success doing it. O Cath offensive line was superb and the few times the QB was sped up, he made good quick decisions to hit outlet passes and got rid of the ball.

True—Beechwood was in a three-man front, but they did bring a fourth pretty often. Most of their pressure was just an edge guy, and even their blitz looks were usually only four rushers total. Nothing complex, and O-Cath’s offensive line handled it really well. Is not having Carrico going to hurt today? This game will be won in the trenches.

Can this game live up to expectations as the first one? Time does this one start again?

There were probably a half dozen times they rushed more than four with no success. I haven’t seen the game film but my memory is Beechwood's best defense was when they went to cover 3 in the second half.

For sure and roughly 410pm EST.

The broadcast is live.
