12th Region Boys Basketball Preview

Featured Replies

There are several 12th region teams playing at South Laurel tonight and tomorrow.   Southwestern plays tonight at 7:30 and Somerset Christian, Lincoln, and DCA all play tomorrow.  It's per per view on HUDL.

I see the most parity that we have seen in years. It won’t surprise me one bit if any of the top 6 teams (per the above rankings) end up as the best team. I’m not sold on DCA at the top. While they ha

  • The joke I've heard made by people in all four districts is one prominent coach will probably retire but it is implemented!

  • It depends on the makeup of your program to some degree (do I have a lot of football players, are we an “A” school, what is our fundraising capacity and ability to travel?). But generically: - mi

Heard of any scores?

They’ve not been posting the scores on HUDL.  The only one I’ve heard was Pulaski over Barbourville by about 30.

Pulaski opens with Madison Central and Lou. Eastern.  Somerset is playing Powell Co, Bullit East, @ Adair Co. @ Corbin @ Clinton Co.  All teams that could win their region.  Pretty good schedule for both of them.

Bell County 64 Lincoln 59.  I didn't see the first quarter but what I did see wasn't real impressive on either team's part.  Lots of defensive lapses, fouls, missed shots, etc.  They'll really need to tighten things up once the season starts.  Lincoln's offense is about 80% Cash Baird driving to the basket.

Obviously you didn’t watch the first quarter.  Baird hit 4 threes in the first quarter and they have way more offense besides Baird ?.  Please know your facts before you post.   Lincoln played with Bell the whole game until Robbins went to the bench with foul trouble in the 2nd half.

I already said that I didn't see the first quarter.  In the rest of the game they didn't demonstrate that they have way more offense than Baird.  If it wasn't for him they wouldn't have been in the game.

How many games would you all be in without your 7footer?

Why don’t more teams play each other in this region. (I.e., Lincoln vs Somerset)?

I have always associated that with the weird north-south, narrow construct of the region. McCreary opens with Clinton County. That makes a lot more geographical sense than a team like East Jessamine. It’s hard for Danville to travel to Wayne County on a Tuesday.

That is a good showing by Lincoln IMO.  Bell is considered to be Co-Favorite in the 13th region with North Laurel.

While I think @se7ens answered the question best, you also have to factor in relationships between coaches. Somerset's coach played for Lincoln's coach - maybe they'd rather not play each other. And sometimes coaches with relationships do want to play each other. So you never know.

By the way, this is the 51st year of Lincoln County High School and they've played Somerset 45 times.

Thank you! Our boys had a tough week, had to make adjustments due to our center deciding to step away from basketball to focus on football.  Bell County is a good team, I know they were short one of their best players due to football as well, but they're projected to be in the top 25.  We lost by five and our center was on the bench for nearly an entire quarter due to being in foul trouble.  I'm not worried about this loss, it only makes us more prepared for the season.  Our boys are tough, I have full confidence in them, they know how to win and have an excellent coach behind them.

Pendygraft not being on the Lincoln roster really hurts a team already struggling with depth. Coach Jackson has dealt with this kind of situation before (multiple times) where he has to develop players to complement 1 or 2 returning pieces. And he's been successful doing so. That methodical, defense driven approach should benefit them as they try to recover from that setback.

Lincoln has no size without Pendygraft. They will start 5 guards more than likely.
