Why did they play this game on Thursday night?

My guess would be officiating shortage. Many assignors ask schools to consider moving a few games to Thursday or Saturday to secure officials.

I honestly feel like PT needed to take one on the chin. You don't ever want to lose, but I don't hate it. Time to come back to reality and lose that invincible feeling.  I've said all season that

  • Give Madisonville credit they controlled they clock and kept Tilghman’s high powered offense off the field. They are better then I thought.

Watched this game live and can I say what a game both teams played extremely hard. Hats off to Madisonville for their performance they did a great job keeping PT on their heels. Tilghman played hard as well but they did struggle with some things penalties, dropped passes but they kept fighting to the end but Madisonville ends up pulling it off. Both of these squads have a great opportunity to make great runs in the post season with Tilghman being in 4A and Madisonville being in 5A. Once again great great game congrats to Coach Price and the Maroons.

Wow! Last week PT was firing on all cylinders, but that doesn’t seem to be the case last night. Absolutely not taking anything away from the Maroons, that is a great win for them!

I think that is about the only answer for the officiating shortage and honestly I don’t think it’s that big a deal if every team has to move one game to a Thursday or Saturday every year.

Huge win for MNH!

I genuinely could see 6 teams winning 5A at the moment. Love it!

Agreed. As someone who likes to go see games in other locations throughout the season, the Thursday night games are pretty cool.

Ref shortage. From what I've heard, this will happen throughout the state the rest of the season at times and games could end up on Thursday or Saturday to accommodate if they have to.

Lack of Officials

I will say also that I understand why there is a lack of officials. Not gonna take over this post with it all, but I did have everything done to officiate some games myself to help and I backed out last minute.

There's a lot to consider when doing it and unfortunately, there is enough negative interaction they deal with to make you reconsider doing it.

Per the KHSAA notes at a recent BOC meeting, the number of referees is up, which is good. However, refs are by association (similar to, but not the same as by regions in basketball and baseball). Some weekends association schools have more home games than others. So it isn't always a "lack of officials" in total, but instead a lack of officials to cover an excess of home games for a particular weekend.

Good to know the numbers are coming back up. I know there were several articles written in both the 23 and 24 seasons that addressed this and there was a lot of concern.

I wonder if them lowering the age limit to that 14-17 year old group to start at lower level games ever helped? I haven't really seen anyone in that range at any level that I can remember seeing.

This was the information shared on the KHSAA website at the first Board of Control meeting for this year held in late July/early August. As you can see, numbers have grown for football from 848 to 873 to 904 and now 957 at the end of last year. I'm sure the age-adjustment has helped some.

Tilghman not much defense this year - offense will have to carry them.

I don’t know how you can say that when Madisonville came into the game averaging around 56 points a game and their running back averaging over 200 yards a game and Tilghman held them to 25 and the running back only rushed for 91 yards.
