We're back for the Colonels vs. Colonels on Friday in Dixie and Cov Cath's annual Battle for Colonel Highway. Separated by 4.6 miles of asphalt along US-42, the two teams meet this week for the 52nd Gridiron Colonel Classic. The series currently stands at 44 wins to 7 in Covington Catholic's favor, with a current 18-year win streak for the Blue Colonels.

The Red Colonels are currently sitting on a 0-3 record after losing 20-10 to Simon Kenton in Week 1, 66-21 to Badin (OH) in Week 1, and 48-7 to Beechwood in Week 3. One of the biggest struggles for the team has been finding their offensive footing on the ground, averaging only 77 yards rushing per game. The air attack has been fair, with just over 200 yards per game passing, but when your defense is giving up nearly 3 touchdowns for every 1 touchdown your offense scores, that spells trouble. The Red Colonels were held to just 50 yards rushing and 96 yards passing against Beechwood this past Friday.

The Blue Colonels come into the Week 3 game for a second-straight year with a 1-2 record, with at 26-20 loss to Ryle in Week 1, a 28-20 loss to Elder (OH) in Week 2, and a 62-15 win over Simon Kenton this past Friday. Notably different from last year has been the Cov Cath passing game, with their offense averaging 178 yards passing per game in the first three contests of the season, compared to 102 yards passing last year. Their ground attack has come in with an average 206 yards per game. Cov Cath's defense has taken steps forward with each game, although they still have allowed nearly 350 yards of offense per game.

What are your predictions for the game on Friday?

Kickoff is currently scheduled for 7:00pm at Griffin Stadium in Park Hills.

Isn’t this a home Game for the Cov Cath Colonels at Cov Cath? Just double checking….

Yes

Cov Cath names the score if they want unfortunately.   Cov Cath while only having 1 win is really solid this year.

Yeah, my mistake on that one. Thanks for pointing that out.

I'm actually going to be missing the game this week, unfortunately. Mrs_Wears_Blue got us weekend passes to the Bourbon & Beyond music festival down in Louisville this weekend, so I'll be there from Thursday through Sunday.

Cov Cath via running clock.

I was waaaaaaaay wrong about SK. I learned my leason ! I have to agree with you here.  ?

From afar, I see the vision with Dixie’s staff and felt like they had been improving. But they really lost in year 4 to that Simon Kenton team, in the first game with a new regime, while having an FCS level QB? I don’t know. I realize talent ebbs and flows, but that can’t happen.

For this game, not sure how this isn’t a running clock.
